Just wondering when is the soonest someone should ever breed a female dog? And how many times they should? I want to make sure I know this when looking at breeders. Thanks

I was told 2 yrs old. My Belle was almost 2 when she got pregnant. It turned out ok though. I am not sure on how many times though?

I wouldn't breed a female before she's 2 years old (hip Xrays are done at that age, prelim can be done before). 3 litters max IMO

I'm in agreement with Gail, age two at the earliest and only after health testing is completed AND good results are recorded. What's the point of breeding before then ? They are just babies themselves, actually even two is pushing it. Personally, I prefer to give the kid some time to grow up physically and mentally, finish in the show ring (or field) and get some experience under their belt....I breed my girls normally only twice, then they are spayed. (very rare occasions, three times, but that's it)

Best wishes,
Phyllis

I feel anywhere from 1 1/2 on is good to start breeding.I would not breed before I knew what the dog "is all about" and the hip x-rays come back.
You can breed once a year. This will be to much on the mother but I have seen others do it. Not that I would but their dogs but others do.
Strange how some people believe that if a breeder does something it must be right.Esp if that breeder claims or actually has bred for some years.

I'm with Gail as well. Not before 2 yrs., not after 8 yrs.

Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.
