TUCKERS STORY:
For some of you who don't know it here goes, It all started with Hurricane Katrina. My husband who is a Federal Agent was told to pack it up & get ready to go to Louisiana to help. Being a volunteer for anything person, I wanted to help to. I had always gone on Lisa's web site , WGSPR, looking at the dogs & when she put out a plea for help to foster dogs from the hurricane I called her & volunteered. Well they couldn't get any dogs transported that far north., so I didn't get any. Then in November of that year she calls me I & said " would you like to take a 10 year old boy. He has been at the shelter for 2 months & is getting ready to be put down. Nobody wants an old dog. I was his last chance. I really hadn't thought of wanting one either but I said OK. Then we had to figure out how to get him here. It took 2-3 weeks & a lot of help from this board to finally get a plan. We had to be in Minneapolis on Dec. 5 for meetings. Lisa got him a ride from Milwaukee to Minneapolis but then we couldn't get him for 4 days. That's when Jason read our post & volunteered to keep him until we could pick him up. That's how Tucker came to live with us!! The people on this board are like family & we could not have made it happen without them. Tucker is the most wonderful old man ever!! I can't imagine not having him ! It took almost a year for him to get over some past things in his life that were not good, but now he is just a old spoiled man!!
He made his last trip to WI this last weekend to attend the WGSPR Reunion, but he was having so much trouble getting up & down that we knew it was time. We will miss him so much. Even my tuff hubby cried, he said " tuck was part of our family"
Have fun over the Rainbow Bridge old guy, mom & dad loved you.

| Alice - What a wonderful story, and thank you for giving Tuck a wonderful last forever home. I know you will miss him, but at least where he is now he is like a puppy again with no aches and pains. God bless you, your family and Tuck. |

| Don't know if I ever told the story of Ole Tuck meeting the drummer of the " Oak Ridge Boys". I went to a Scandinavian music festival in Minot, ND in our motor home. My son plays Accordion in a band so we were camped in the Musicians area, so was the Oak Ridge Boys tour bus. I took Tuck out for a potty break & the drummer comes out of the bus & yelled at me to bring the dog over. He wanted to know what kind he was, his age, name, etc. so I told him his story. When he was done he said" see you later Tucker" never asked for my name, LOL. It was still cool! |

| God bless you for taking in an old boy when he needed to be loved and understood the most. It sounds like Tucker lived his life with you to the fullest an enjoyed every moment of it. It's never easy to make the decision to let them go, but I know he's in very good company up there on the bridge chasing squirrels and pointing birds to his hearts content. |

| We just had the dogs out over at the dog park and were talking to a woman who only rescues "senior" dogs (over 10). When I think of the love and attention given to these dogs, when you know that your time with them will likely be a matter of months instead of years ... well, there's a special place in heaven for you guys. Once again, sorry to hear about Tuck. Hope the other dogs are adjusting to his absence as well. |

I've posted this before, and I rework it every time, but I think Tucker would join in
Old dogs are no fun.
Can't hardly walk, sure can't run
Old dogs are no fun.
How was I lost? Did I do wrong?
Or did I wander off, and no one called?
They can't have looked for long.
I don't remember.
This I remember. . .
A shady porch with sun on my face
The occasional foolish cat to chase. . .
My breakfast from a loving hand,
Saying "you're home, old man."
The days grow short, I cannot stay
I know you'll help me on my way.
But as the days move into December
I'll go content, for you'll remember
My name was Buster. (or Tucker, or any older dogs we have loved.) |

So sad to here Tucker has stepped over the Rainbow Bridge. Always compared or made reference to Tucker and my Friend Gayles 14 yr old Saluki Monty boy being the same age and doing well for their age. Just loved the pic of Tucker with a tennis ball in background. Well Tucker and Monty are similar and though never met on earth, they have met each other now at the Rainbow Bridge. Heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Tucker looks so warm and cozy in the photo where he's laying by the hearth. Like others said, he is now at the Rainbow Bridge where he's young, carefree, and happy. May God Rest His Soul. |
