I would probably try to get as large a group together as possible, maybe of NAVHDA folks and their dogs. and comb the area over very thoroughly. I don't know how Leena is but I think Tessa would be attracted to a commotion like that in the woods and likely try to move towards it unless physically unable to do so.
You said Leena is shy with people, but maybe the presence of dogs will work for her...unless she is shy with them too...still, it may be worth a try...
I think at this point I would try any and everything.
Good luck! |

I think it is a good idea to go back and keep going thru the area she was lost, if you are not out doing that now. Leena could have gotten bit by a copperhead snake. I know you have them in SE PA. They can be anywhere, even in the city. This is not as bad as it sounds though. Two of my dogs have been bitten and they shook it off pretty fast. Good ole Sunshine (Heinz 57) was running in place on the linoleum floor with his swollen leg with me holding the leash trying to chase a cat at the vet's office right after his bite. While a bite probably won't kill her or do serious harm, it could have freaked her out and she could be laying up under a bush somewhere, afraid to come to you.
Good luck. The bright spot is that you will likely meet a lot of nice people while looking for Leena.

Elizabeth, here is the link to the PA NAVHDA chapter. I have no idea how far they are from you and Leena. but I would contact them to see if they have any more suggestions - I would think that they have some experience with lost dogs - or if they could send your "Lost Dog" post out to their members via their listserv. They may have members from your area.
If you would like me to do this, I will, just let me know.

| Thank you guys so much for all your advice and help. I emailed the 3 local NAVHDA chapters. I put up tons more flyers today as well. Checked our one local shelter and brought them a flyer. |

| I would still see if you can get some tracking help, maybe from the NAVHDA people. I train with someone whose dog tracked a wounded deer two days after it was lost to the hunter, and he found it. The dog had never tracked deer before, just pheasant. Now, a wounded deer is different from a hopefully unwounded dog, but maybe someone has a dog with a really good nose and there is nothing to lose by trying. |

I second TessaGA on finding a good tracking dog. Rocky and I do tracking and have found 5 lost dogs in our area using Rocky's great tracking nose which come natural in a GSP. Go for it and best wishes Still greatly in our prayers to bring Leena back home safe. |

| I contacted 3 NAVHDA clubs to ask if they know of anyone as well as a local search and rescue club. |

| Elizabeth, I just saw your post on the VHD forum...is the area right by the Delaware River? Could it be that she went in it, maybe after some birds? And New Jersey is on the other side? Oh my... |

I don't post often, but I had been checking the forum often reading all your posts hoping to hear of Leena's safe return. I know there is nothing to be said to diminish your pain right now, but I wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

She was hit by a car. She was found about a 1 mile from where she was lost. She had a wonderful life. I will really miss her racing around through the woods, her always pushing her ball at me while I am online trying to get a game started. She was an amazing dog. I had so many plans for her-agility, obedience, and hopefully some field work. The house is so quiet tonight. |

Oh God. I really, really hoped it wasn't going to end like this. Words can't express how sorry I am.
