My daughter sent a few pics of Xara laying in her lap playing with her own feet. I have came to the conclusion this puppy is a midget!! She's sooooo small at 5 weeks now. Andria said she is only about 5 or 6 inches tall ! I think I am getting a speckled chihuahua not a GSP

These aren't the best pics since they were with her cell phone, but here is Xara at 5 weeks:

look at the paws.. while they havent started really growing.. they are bigger than she is... I don't think you have to worry about having a chihuahua sized GSP.. although she will probably never be as big as her littermates.

Don't worry she will catch up. How is she doing on the puppy mush? Does she still have her littermate to play with? With GSPs just because they are small as a pup does not mean they will be small as adults. Belle was the runt in her litter (significantly smaller) and she is a big female at 24.5 inches in the withers and weighs 55 pounds. Xara may surprise you. My what big feet she has. She is a cutie.

What a cutie patootie! Look at those teenie weenie ears... you would never imagine that in a few weeks those ears are going to be bigger than her head! :) And make the most amazing flapping sound when she shakes! LOL
Those feet definitely tell you everything you need to know!

I must have puppyitis, because mine's just 16 weeks, and I'm already drooling over yours.   She's a darling.

She is an itty bitty little thing, but she may surprise you and end up very normal sized. Be prepared though - the runt is always the most tenacious and tough little bugger in the group. I have a special place in my heart for the little ones because they just don't take no for an answer.

LOL she will grow, that I know, it's just right now, she's sooooooooo small compared to her litter mates! They put her in with the one pup but the other pup plays very rough with her, picks her up in it's mouth and shakes her around, that they really have to monitor the interaction because Xara simply won't fight back LOL She just lets them shake her and then sits down and gets this look like "what the heck was that!!".
she's started to explore more and play more away from Andria, which is good, I was getting worried about having separation anxiety as she simply screamed when she couldn't see Andria. Andria has been putting her in her crate and walking away for short periods of time to show Xara that all is good, she still returns and Xara has finally realized it and is calm in her crate now when she can't see her. So that's a good thing.
The vet is hesitant to give her her first shots at 6 weeks because she's so tiny, barely 3 lbs, but decided since she has no natural immunities from her momma since she was bottle fed that he's going to give her her shot, but use a variation that only contains a few of the normal things a pup would get, it will be all but 2 of the things in a normal DHLPP shot. I think the one P (not parvo, she will get that one, and one other but I can't remember which one it is). He is just being cautious due to her size.
She's learned not to poop in her crate and now whines to go outside when she has to go, but does still pee in her crate from time to time. Andria is working on that too.
She plays with other dogs now, tolerant adults, and Andria said she's an ankle biter, literally LOL I guess legs of other dogs are about the only thing she can reach so that is what gets gnawed on first.
She discovered the joys of eating cow poop UGH!!!! Andria takes her to roping nights (cowgirl, what can I say!) and Xara walked around and found cowpies and thought they were wonderful. Andria had to convince her they weren't something she needed to have.
So mentally developmentally wise, she's right on par, it's just her size hasn't caught up with her yet! She's eating her mush good, and is actually even eating some hard food, but she is having issues drinking water from a bowl. She keeps dunking her nose in and sucking up water, once she's done that a few times she refuses to try it again. Andria leaves a bowl down for her, but so far Xara is adamant she is not going to do it again once that water goes up her nose. Another week and I bet she's a pro at it.

2 weeks until I get to hold her and bring her home!!!!!!!!!!!!!! we leave here on the 29th to go to NY and I cannot wait!!!!!

When we brough Tundra home at 12 weeks she was sooooo TINY still. She was about the size of what one would expect of a 8 week old GSP not a 12 week old on. She is still small. 40 lbs soaking wet and 20" tall. But she sure is a pistol! And we love her all the same. She is so small everyone thinks she is the youngest dog we have when in fact she is the second oldest. We get asked offten if she is like a 6 month old. At almost every dock jumping event we get asked. She is just our TINEY TUNDRA!

when we found Wachter, he was approx. 4 weeks old, at that time he was smaller than my smallest shih-tzu and weighed about 7 lbs. His legs were so short he couldn't step up on the one step to the porch, we had to create a 1/2 step for him out of bricks...

NOW he can look at what is on the table without jumping up AND weighs a little over 60 lbs... while he is not the biggest GSP I have seen, he definitely ranks among average.
