My daughter called me from NY. We are in stage 3 of Xara's development.

Her eyes are open and she's now attempting to run around and play. Still in the awkward stage of stumbling over her own feet but she's trying. Last night she was bouncing at Andria and growling and barking at her until Andria finally gave in and sat on the floor and played fetch with her with one of her cats toys LOL

Andria said she already knows to retrieve the toy and bring it back to be thrown again!!!  I cannot wait to get this puppy!!! 3 more longggg weeks.

The mother developed mastitis (sp?) and can no longer nurse any of the pups so they are now on dog food mush and doing great with it. Xara will be introduced to it today for the first time to see how she likes it. She will be 4 weeks on Thursday and is going strong. No signs of any abnormalities thus far in her development which is awesome!  She's still considerably smaller than her litter mates, but is catching up fast. One of the other pups from the litter is at the clinic now so that Xara will have a litter mate to play with and learn with, the vet felt that would be a good move since the pups can't be with mommy right now because she's so sick.

Andria is supposed to send me pics tonight of Xara so I can see how big she is now. I haven't had a new pic since she was 2 weeks old so I am anxious to get them!!  I'll post when I do!

Sorry to hear about the momma being sick. I am glad Xara is doing so well, and she has a play mate now. That 3 weeks is forever, but it will pass. Can't wait to see the new pictures.

Glad to hear Xara is doing well. Poor mama dog...Will Xara be reintegrated with her littermates now that they are eating puppy mush?

She is very cute. She will catch up in size, never fear. My Belle was the runt of her litter and she is now on the big side for a female at 24.5 inches and 55 pounds. She is a pretty little girls and I love her markings.

Not to worry, she will catch up with everyone else really fast...right now Xara looks about 3 weeks so she's a bit behind but definitely nothing to worry about. You are going to have such a blast! Have your daughter send you a blanket or something that she's used in her kennel area and you carry it around for awhile...it will get your other dogs used to the puppy breath smell. . Then, send it back to Xara so she can identify with your scent and won't be so bewildered when she comes to live with you. You'll probably also want to introduce the other members of the family gradually to her so she isn't overwhelmed...that pack thing, you know.

She's a doll, and looks like she will totally get under your skin in a second! Too cute!

Xara had her first mush meal and loved it. Andria was lauging because, being a puppy, Xara thought the best way to dive in was to plant herself directly in the middle of the bowl and eat while standing in it. The only food they could find that I even remotely approved of was Pro Plan Puppy so I'll have to wean her off that on to Eagle Pack when she gets here, or if she's doing well I'll keep her on it and switch my own over to Pro Plan. Not sure what I'll do yet.

Xara also now thinks she needs to try to get on the couch, but of course falls over on her back because she's too little to even remotely reach that comfy sitting spot just yet.

I've got her signed up for puppy classes beginning September 15th. The training club does the AKC STAR puppy class which is nice. The last puppy class I attended out there was for Sniper and it was much like watching paint dry! No actual obedience work, just a lot of sitting around and letting the pups play, passing the puppy etc. So it's nice to know they now incorporate the beginnings of sit, down, come and walking on a loose leash along with the socialization.

I decided not to do the tracking just yet as it's outdoors and Xara won't have her final shots completed in time to join that particular class so the puppy class will have to do for now.
