That's white/liver ticked.  Roan is difficult to distinguish ticking as the white and liver hairs are intertwined so closely over the entire coat.

Enjoy them every minute you have them!

Gunther looks like a real handsome GSP. His coat looks very similar to Rocky and the AKC labeled Rocky's color as Liver&white ticked. I don't know if Gunther is exactly the same. Rocky and Gunther could be cousins.

This is how I had it explained to me with roan. Is that the dog has the liver base and then has flex of white coming through the liver base. To me that makes sense as it is the same type of thing with horses.

My dogs love their window seat (the couch in front of the picture window) because my house is built on a hill, so it is 2 stories above ground, right at eye level with all the birds and squirrels. They spend endless hours there, I am always wiping nose prints off the glass. :D

Daniel seems to be able to tell when noises come from the TV vs. real life, but Layla hasn't quite figured out that concept yet. There's this commercial with a rooster crowing and she goes a little insane when she hears it. The new neighbors down the hill are chicken people, so we are always hearing that stupid rooster, ALL DAY LONG, and she hates it as much as I do... enough that I am tempted to sneak down there one night & open the coop so the coyotes can take care of that rooster for me! :P )

I agree with the color thing but If the dog was more white wouldn't it be white/ liver roan? Whereas Mocha is mostly liver so she is liver roan patched & ticked? OK so I am crazy I guess. I see so many dogs on here that are so nice looking, they are like frosted. I am trying to figure out if that is classified as liver roan or would it be white roan?

I have never heard of a white roan??? The encylopedia says that roan has to have a dark base coat with the lighter coming through. 'It is a mixture of white hairs together with a base coat of any darker color" - right from the dictionary. So if there is a white base then there isn't a way for it to be roan unfortunitly. I guess you can call it whatever makes you happy though :-) Just can't register it that way! HE HE! If the dog is more white then it is going to be something along the lines of White/liver ticked and patched or something similar. The ticking uforntunitly doesn't have any size restritions to it so they can all run close together but if the base coat is an obviouse white it the dog wouldn't be considered roan. I wish the AKC would require photos of dogs when registering like horse registries. As then the AKC could change the color on the papers if they don't agree.... Oh well.!

Yeah I guess that's right. There is such a variance with the patterns on them. I have also noticed that sometimes the pups will have similar patches as the parents. Hunter's dad has a patch behind his right shoulder and Hunter has it in the same spot. Same spot entirely. Two of Hunter's pups had that same spot there, and one pup from Hunter's dad in another litter has it too. How wierd eh? I have also notices that alot of the Clown line dogs have similar markings? Or is it just me seeing things?

Drunes
how funny you are. When we leave him inside, Max manages often to find his way into our bedroom, which looks over the front porch. You can see him sitting and lifting up the blinds with his nose so he can see us leave. He doesn't whinge or anything, he just likes to see which direction we go in.

Don't you love them!
