As some of you may have read, I took part in a GSP Rescue Transport on Saturday.  I was helping to transport 2 GSPs from New Mexico to thier  new home in Maine.  Thier owner got deployed into service.

The dogs were awesome!  A male a female, Odin and Freya.  Odin looked so much like my Osiris!

When we got the meeting point, the previous driver had the pups out on a leash, and they immediatly came over to the car and when I opend the door, they tried to climb int!  They were so freindly!

We loaded them up and were on our way.  Odin settled right down in the back, but Freya seemed keyed up and wanted to sit in my Mom's lap.  Halfway through, we changed drivers since Freya kept trying to climb into my lap while I was driving.  She snuggled into my arms, and I sang to her, ans she soon fell asleep.

When we got the the checkpoint, we let them potty, and then it was time to go again.  They were all to eager to jump into the next car!

Both dogs were lovely and will make thier new owner very happy.  I wish I could keep them!!

It was neat to be a part of that!  I will do it again if the opportunity arises.

That's great, but also sad for the original owner. I can not imagine what it must be like to have to give up these two gorgeous dogs...

I just got an email from the new owners.... sounds like everyone is settling in!  Yay!  I love happy endings!

Dear Everybody!
I was hoping to send this a little earlier, but we've been a bit busy over the past week with the addition of the pups :).

Thank you so much to everyone of you involved in the monumental effort to get Odin and Freya all the way up to Maine.  When I look at the number of people involved, taking the time out of your own lives to help people you've never met, I am truly humbled.  There's no way I can show you all my appreciation, but I wanted you all to know that you have my admiration and my gratitude.

We're all adjusting well, getting to know each others personalities.  I think over the first week, the pups were not really sure they were staying with us.  I had to take them in the truck to go see the vet (routine check-up) and they both gave me the "aw man...I don't want to go in the car AGAIN" look.  It was actually kind of amusing, and I spent the entire ride (10 min) reassuring them we were heading back to the same house.

Our biggest challenge so far is letting them off leash.  We have LOTS of wildlife out our way (squirrles, birds, more squirrels) and when they see something of interest it takes all my effort to hold onto them :).  We are trying to work with them on our invisible fence, but we've had so much rain out here lately that it's been rather difficult.  They did get a chance to run free in a large fenced in yard at my parents house, which was absolute heaven for them, especially with the addition of a chipmunk infested rock wall!  Other than that, all is well way up here and once again, I thank each and every one of you for helping to bring these wonderful friends to our home.

Thank you all,
Michael, Kerry, Joshua, Eric, Odin & Freya

(I'd sign the cat's name, but I don' t think she's all too impressed with her new family members right now :)

What a wonderful story with a happy ending Good to have kind giving people like you and the other driver who helped transport. Also happy the 2 GSPs got to stay together and not adopted out separately Brought a tear to my eyes.

That is wonderful! I had volunteered to help with that transport, but the legs near me had already been filled. :)

Well, I hope there will be more chances to do this! It was only a few hours out of my day for a lot of satisfaction!

I've done a couple of transports before & it's wonderful to be able to help & to meet other rescue owners. I got to do a transport up to Freeport, Maine once because the new owners lived so far north that it was halfway between my house in southern NH & theirs in northern Maine. When I said I'd be driving a green Jeep Cherokee with New Hampshire veteran's plates the woman started laughing and said, "I'll be driving a green Jeep Cherokee with MAINE veteran's plates." :)

That is awesome! I like to try to help with them too. I keep in regular contact with some shelters in the area and they notify me when they get bird dogs in. I try to help find homes. It is a good feeling. Also sad that who ever had them before either abused them or just couldn't keep them for some reason.

Just an update for those involved. The dogs made it to Maine but the male Odin had a pain problem and started snapping at the children and both had to be given up. Marshfield Kennel took both dogs, Odin had a disease (Ehrlichiosos and also Valley Fever which is a fungal infection particular to Arizona?) causes joint pain and  kidney damage, he was eventually put down. The female "Freya" is still at Marshfield kennel and is awaiting adoption. If you go to the kennel site and click on update under archive click on rescue. Sorry it is not good news but I saw this the other day while perusing his website and thought I would update for those that helped out.

Yes, pretty sad all around...I wonder how the original owner must feel, not being able to be there for Odin.

Here is a link to a nice write-up about odin:
