The more I look at all the pictures of GSP on here the more I think my Josie looks different.  We were told she was a purebred but she doesn't look (to me) like the other dogs on here.  She also doesn't look the size of other dogs about her age.  I don't really care but mabey somebody can tell by looking at her.  It also might be that she is all black with some white and I have not seen an all black GSP on here at all.  Why is that? She does the pointing thing, she has she was a smaller puppy.

Thanks

Looks like more of a Lab mix then a GSP. Def not a purebred.

She's a beautiful girl but is most definitely not all GSP. My vote would be that she's a border collie cross. Maybe GSP and border collie but certainly border collie. That's obvious to me in her head and her coloring.

Your right she does look like a border collie only with shorter hair.  How silly of me.  I had never really seen a GSP and she was given to us and told thats what she was. But cruising around this site I realized she doesn't really look like these dogs.  She does point and chases birds at the park like crazy, does she look like she is part GSP.  I should probably stop posting on this sight if she is not. LOL :)

Border Collies can be smooth coated as well as long. Josie looks a lot like the first dog we had after we got married. Rupert was a Lab- BC X.

Could Josie be herding the birds and not pointing them??

She totally could be herding.  Do non-pointer dogs point? she does what I think is pointing.  Well she does exactly what that dog is doing in the picture on the home page of this sight.

The ears look definitely non-GSP, and I have never seen a GSP wear such beautiful socks :) She's a sweet looking dog and from the sounds of she will be a lot of fun.

Do you know why they said GSP? What was that based on? She could still be a mix. How old is she again?

Solid liver or black GSP's can definetly have white feet and chests.  Called self-fronted color pattern. But this dog does not look full blooded.

Cody has the white chest and his front paws are white. Your Josie is a sweet looking dog, whatever breed or mix she is.
I can't get into photo bucket for some reason to post a bigger picture of Cody but he is in my aviator so you should be able to see his chest and front paws.

I think she looks more like the lab/border collie mix. And yes, non-hunting breeds can and do point and chase birds and other critters. In any case, she looks like a wonderful dog. By the way, even if she is not a GSP, there is no reason not to continue to post and belong to the forum. After all we all love dogs.

A friend got her for us and said when she picked her up that's what they told her she was. She said she did see a GSP there but obviously one or both of her parents is not. Its odd that they would tell her she was a purebred because it wouldn't have mattered to us. We love her anyway. I was on this site to get some advice on how to best meet her needs and train her. But now I feel silly posting here and don't know where to go. But thank you all for your comments.

page - If you have questions please post them, I for one have no problems with whether or not your dog is a GSP. I just love dogs and anyone who owns one is all right by me. By the way, there are Black and Black and White GSPs out there and some members have Black and Black and White. They just are not as common as the Brown and Brown and White. Also, for now the AKC does not recognize Black and Black and White in the breed ring.

This is my Holly. We say she is a lab mix but whatever else she is, she's a herder. She sure doesn't act like any lab I ever knew! She doesn't even like to eat! My pictures of her refused to load or I would have you all guessing what's in her family tree.

Page, there is an organization that does dna testing and can tell you what mix your dog is...

As for the black/white issue. I will include a photo of Wachter.. he is B/W patched/ticked... and has an "almost twin" (meaning they are not related, but look alike) on this list named Gunner.

One thing about this list is the members are not breed snobs... YES we love our GSP's but we also accept people who love other dogs as welll (I actually have shih tzus that I talk about frequently about on here.)

Page,

Looking at your BEAUTIFUL baby I would agree with previous posters that she looks to be a Border Collie/Lab mix.
I have a GSP and a Pitt-ador (Lab/Pitt mix). And as far as the pointing thing goes... My Pitt-ador will try to point like my GSP does and it cracks me up.
If you can picture a HUGH Black Lab @ 97.6 lbs. trying to copy the GSP, it is so funny.

Whatever breed she ends up being, she is absolutly beautiful and I bet she ends up being a GREAT dog.
