I am looking into buying this collar/ beeper. Can anyone tell me if this is a good one? I do lots and lots of grouse hunting in thick cover. My Sportdog 400s just doesn't cut it. I thought it was a good one from reading the box but it is only good for yard/ field work. I don't want to get another one that won't work.

I have the Upland G2 with the beeper option and love it.  Good range with lots of settings, and it is waterproof too.  Beeper option is nice, because I hunt in thick cover and can't see the dog or loose site of her sometimes, so I page her with the beeper to see where she is at and if she is moving, it has a different beep when she is moving or on point (not moving).  When I first started using the combo, I have a whistle command I use to come in, then I would page her with the beeper, and if she doesn't come, I would blow the whistle once more then I would stimulate her until she did.  If she is on point I will go to her.  Never stimulate if your dog is on point.  I haven't used the e-collar part in two years, just the beeper every now and then.

Thanks, mine are whistle trained to come as well. I am very interested in this collar. Do you have any trouble with range in thick cover? I like to keep them a bit close but I want it to really work in the brush. I only have to use the beeper normally on the SD400 and they will come back in. But the stimulation won't work out very far while hunting.

My dad has an english pointer, and she will range every now and again, 100-200 yards or more in South Texas thick cover and we have never had a problem with the beeper option. I was in Kansas two weeks ago with my 6 month GSP puppy, and she took off with another dog in a corn field with shin high cut stalks, I could barely see her, but I could hear the beeper. That was her first time with it on, but it got her attention to look back to me and I got her to come back to me. She must have been a good 300+ yards from me.

Thanks, I am just really curious about it in Grouse conditions. Old clear cuts with lots of brush and trees and briar patches? I want to make sure it is going to work good in there before I buy one. I don't get to do much hunting in corn fields here mostly swampy areas and such.
