It was wonderful to see Jessica again, and she brought Lily also. Lil is VERY laid back, probably the calmest 6 month old GSP I've ever met. She was OK with being out in the dog yard with the circus, but I wonder if she would have been just as happy snoozing in the car, lol.

Charlie is a big boy- bigger than my shrimpy females, and he ended up fitting perfectly into a harness that Rogan might still be able to squeeze into. !!! Jessica was a little cautious about turning him out w/ my crew at first, but we put him in in the yard with Los Tres Horribles still in kennels and let him get over his silly barking fit and then let the dogs out one at a time. He got over it within minutes and ended up playing with everyone just fine.

He IS a little pushy at times, especially with poor Lily- who just rolls over and clearly hopes he'll just get bored if she doesn't do anything and leave her alone. I only saw him get slightly pushy a couple times with Los Tres and he clearly rethought that plan on the fly without anyone having to go off on him.

He seems to have an idea of what 'come' means, but is starting to get to that stage where he'll just meet your eye dead-on and wander off slowly as you're saying it. My advice was don't let him off leash, work on it in the yard to make double-plus sure he knows it well, then add an e-collar in that exact setting and get that down before letting him outside with it on. I don't know any other way he can be safe off-leash because he's clearly not above flipping the handler the bird so to speak.

I did get to run Charly on the scooter a couple times... he doesn't know what's going on and tends to stare at everything like he's never been outside, lol. I suspect it's a combination of immaturity and just needing more exposure and socialization. He got tangled once pretty well and stopped but didn't freak out at all, which is a good sign that he's got some resiliance.

Overall he seems like a sweet guy that's starting to enter that teenage phase. If he can get away with stuff he probably will, but I don't know that he's going to put up a ginormous struggle. Hopefully he'll come back over so he can hang with my crew a little more, as I think they're more willing than Jessica's poor longsuffering girls to let him have it if he starts being a brat. He definately seemed like he was being more careful with them than Lily.

P.S. Sounds like Charley and Lil augered in to sleep mode as soon as they got home, so that's always a good sign, lol!

I think Dulcie the 11 year old put on a pretty good show about how GSPs slow down to what my husband calls "*almost* normal dog speed" at that age. They all had a really good time between playing with Charley and getting a quick demo-spin on the scooter.

Just remember the old saying Jessica: "I should have become a heroin addict instead of a dog musher- it would have been cheaper and less addictive." :P

Megan I love the old saying! I think if Charlie wouldn't have been there last night she probably would have played more but every time she started to he would go and nip at her. I think she will be like Dulcie and have her bounds but doesn't mind playing with you. I think she just needs to figure out how to show her boundaries now.

They were SO pooped when we got home. I thought Id have to carry them from the car to the house. Bailey was mad at me for leaving her behind lol she had her pout on last night for sure.

Hopefully today I get some good constructive training sessions in with him. Thank you again! We had fun.

I'm imagining GSPs sagging into the bed and couch, lol.... Mine actually looked a little tired last night. Rogan is still unphased though- he got to playing with my daughter this morning and knocked her off the bed. GGGGRRRRRR!

I don't think it's going to take heroic measures to iron Charley out, it's just going to take establishing some rules and then staying consistent with them. He's gonna have to earn free running though, and realistically given his maturity level I wouldn't be surprised if he can't handle it for another year. He looked a little surprised when I drug him over to us after calling him a couple times and him just standing there... it's possible to ring his bell without extreme measures so that's good.

Any dog at this age really needs to get out and get socialized with anything and everything possible. In his case it's funny, because he gets the 'tough guy' thing going with the wimpy girls but suddenly slows down and stares at an irrigation rig... building confidence with training, socialization, and firm boundaries will IMO address both sides of that coin.

Overall he seems like a NICE dog, certainly not on the highway to hell or anything like that, lol. Just a big, dorky, slow-maturing male GSP that needs some structure to get his brain in gear.

Always nice to have someone come over that knows not to lock their knees and to expect a few shin bruises with pointermania swirling around, LOL....

*Puppy Brag* So I had to run errands today for 2 hours. I put Charlie in the crate and decided I would leave Lilly out to run the house with Bailey. I was kinda nervous to do this cause I didn't know what I would come home to. Well two hours went by and I snuck up to the front window to pear in to see what the two trouble makes might be up to. Well I find them sleeping on the couch right where I left them. No pee spots, poo spots, nothing chewed up. I guess I should be surprised because she is Miss Prim and Proper but I still am REALLY proud of my 6 month old :)
