I just got this e-mail from the GSP Rescue NE list & was hoping that some of the wonderful members here would be able to help out with some of the transport legs. I have already volunteered for Leg #28, but there are still a lot to fill. Please help out if you can!

It's a very sad story, their mom" ot them because she is near retirement in the military and they assured her she would not be deployed back overseas before she retired, so she felt she could finally get canine companions. Now she is being sent over to Germany & her situation won't allow her to bring them with her. They have found a new forever home in Maine, but need help getting there.

Thank you! Jen (aka unowhoandwhy)

One of our service members is being deployed and has to go to Germany for 3 years.  She has 2 German Shorthair Pointers that can't go with her. She was trying to be responsible and waited until she was close to retirement before getting these dogs because she was assured she would remain stateside for the last years of her career.  Suddenly she is in the impossible position of having to give up her 2 best friends when she was really trying to do the right thing from the very beginning.

The national GSP rescue has found a fantastic home for the two of them together - in Maine!  Their mom is heading out THIS MONTH, so we have no time for this transport to fail!!

This WILL be a two-weekend transport, but they must leave NM the weekend of the 11th because their mom won't be available after that!!

It is IMPERATIVE that this run fills - please help!!!! Please contact Kelli Gibson if you are able to drive a leg.

PASSENGERS (per their mom):

Odin is approximately 3 or 4 years old and is a very playful (neutered) male. He likes to play with rope knotted balls and squeaky toys (hardier ones since he will destroy a stuffed animal squeaky). He prances as though he is in show and points although I do not hunt so I have no idea what he would do if given some training and allowed to "bird." He likes to cuddle with you in the evening on the couch if allowed, but sleeps on his own dog bed at bedtime. He is very intelligent and likes his "job"-he patrols the yard and through the house and likes to "protect" by standing close to you.

Freya is a 6 or 7 year old spayed female who is a very sweet girl and I frequently call her Princess. She just wants to be nearby and after she feels assured you are going to "stay put" in a room she curls up on the floor and just watches you. She doesn't play much but occasionally will pick up a squeaky toy and run around the yard tossing her head and squeaking the toy. When I first brought her home she escaped, climbed the fence and even would "muscle" through a radio-electric fence. Over time I tried many things and finally realized that all she was trying to do was get back into the house. (I had them outside in the yard while I was at work and when she escaped she usually just stood at the front door.) I installed a dog door and turned off the radio fence within a week. She has been perfectly happy being able to come and go between the house and yard and is a happy and well adjusted girl who also sleeps on her own bed although would jump at the chance to curl up on the foot of my bed.

Shots are all up to date and the dogs will be accompanied by health certs and their vet records

Wow. What a cool idea. I would do a leg or two but leave way to far off course. Good luck!

Me too ... Eastern Ontario doesn't figure into the transport at all. Please keep us advised of their progress.

Yeah -- the closest point to me is Tucumcari, NM which is about 380 miles away.  Seems like it would be cheaper to fly these two one way and do collections instead?  Or is this just the cheapest and most effective way?  Just curious as assembling this many legs is going to take a lot of volunteers who live in some remote places.  Southern New Mexico to Maine -- wow.

Hopefully some folks can take 2 or 3 legs. I would if they'd be coming through Georgia.

I hope the two take many photos of their many rides :) and make it safely to their destination.

That route leaving NM is crazy! You can drive straight from Alamogordo to Tucumcari...without going west, then north then back east...Yikes. I'm heading out the 9th to San Antonio dog shows otherwise I would gladly help out with getting them to Tucumcari. Strange thing is, this is the first I've heard of this situation, and Alamogordo is only 60 miles from my house. Hope things get going for them, but I tend to agree with Dave...fly 'em out of El Paso to Maine...

I am driving the leg from Richmond IN to Springfield, OH on Saturday 7/18. Can't wait!!

She was able to get drivers for all legs.  They are doing well during the transport so far.  The owner is very greatful but sad to give them up.

I am planning to take pics, so I will post them and let you all know how it goes.
