Looking at a new reg. form from the akc this weekend, I don't know if anyone noticed but a while back for some reason, the choice of liver roan was gone. Well now it is back with the additions of, hold on to your hats,

Lemon and white, white, brown, brown and white (notice liver and liver and white are also still choices?) and brown roan. They did finally add black and it's variations so you don't have to call for the color code, but, what are they thinking?????

I guess I will have to write a letter, but I need to take a day to calm down, so I don't sound like a crazy person.

Anyone else notice this?

WHAT??? When did this happen? I looked at our paperwork from our April litter and it has the standard choices.

For god's sake...

I didn't look over my puppy papers until I read this (color choices that is, just made sure info was correct) and it IS on mine also.
Since it is up to the parent club to allow/disallow breed standard changes & they are allowing blacks and lemons to compete in HT's and FT's I'm assuming this is why AKC changed the color choices?? I believe I saw where some lemons were competing in field events somewhere, can't remember if it was an AKC event for sure though.
I have nothing against the black GSPS mind you, am for them being allowed in show also.

I received the papers for my litter last week and there are choices for lemon & white, brown, brown and white, white and brown roan.

I have one white & a lighter shade of liver than the rest.  Are they considering that brown? I don't.

Carlower, why can't you get a pet certificate on him now (or whatever they call it) send in pictures, and the dog is nuetered?
They will not recognize the dna test system that says it can tell you what breed of dog you have, only from two parents dna that are registered as shorthairs.
These colors are still not accepted for shorthairs, thus the reason they should not be availible on the registration certificate.

Carrie - You should be able to get an ILP/PAL number. I did it with Belle who was not AKC registered. Let me know and I can walk you through the process. It is actually pretty easy. You just need pictures as Trey said.

Thanks TX,..I have the paperwork and know how to do it... but Wachter is black and white so I was running into issues with the local group in recognizing him... I didn't want to waste the $$ to send it to AKC and have them reject it ... no refunds

AKC shouldn't give you any problems getting a PAL. I know of a couple of black and white rescues that have gotten them.

Anyone have a picture of a lemon dog? Just so I could see one. So are they going with "brown" instead of liver? How or who would decide if it is liver or brown? Confuses the heck out of me. I was having enough time figuring out liver roan vs liver white ptchd and tkd
There are so many variations. So if they are accepting lemon dogs are we going to start seeing lemon livers or lemon roan? If they are allowing all those then what's the sense in trying for a super pedigree. I mean will they allow them for breeding? Sorry, I am not trying to offend anyone. I love the black shorthairs and will have one someday. I am just wondering if the lemon was a fault and you had one you wouldn't breed it right??
