We went to a VERY large dog show this weekend. It is called the Premier Dog Show put on by the United Kennel Club. We did conformation and dock jumping with our crew.

First in conformation Phoenix took Reserve Female both days. This wasn't any kind of competition win but it was still awesome as she placed over an older GSP female who had shown quite a bit before.Phoenix is now 11 months old. Here are a few pics:

Then on to dock jumping where Phoenix set her personal best of 19'2". She then proceeded after getting home on Friday to start her heat cycle so no more jumping for her! :-( But here are pictures from Friday:

And my favorite from the weekend:

The rest of our dogs did great as well. Tundra finished her United Junior Champion Jumper Title. And our jumping American Pit Bull Terrier set a new breed record and personal best with a 23'7" jump, won a competition called Fetch - It and placed 2nd in a competition called Catch-It.

We also got to spend a bit of time talking with Ellenor Campbell who is very active in dog sporting activities with her dogs and also has a nice little black GSP. I believe she earned her first obedience leg this weekend on her and did very well with her Shelties. It was great to meet her!

Congratulations!! Phoenix looks awesome both in the conformation ring and jumping. Eleanor is a very nice lady. I have never met her personally, but hope to next year at the Nationals. She sent me the most awesome email after Halo went HIT at the Nationals.

Thanks for the comments guys. She is one heck of a great dog! I hope to get her finished up with her CH title with UKC saying we can't do conformation with AKC in the next 6 months or so. I will also be taking her at some point to an international show too to get that champion title. Both judges told me they really liked her. And it was nice that they didn't care she was a black GSP.

It was fabulous to meet Beth, her husband and son and dogs. They were so great to help me try to get Soleil to jump. Soleil, however, decided that going in off the plank was her preferred way to enter the water - like swimming from the shore. Price, who stayed behind in NJ, has jumped and loves to. Soleil could not quite muster the desire. My Sheltie was held by the kind helper and shook every time the water hit her! Not her idea of fun!

Oh, and I threw my back out in the dock diving effort and am now sitting on ice. I have done this before, some years back and I just have to be careful for a few weeks, wear a lifting belt and I should feel better soon. But a sore back and a 12 hour drive home = discomfort!

The Premier was wonderful and I enjoyed competing in breed. Alas, Soleil did not earn any Grand Champion legs. We were up against some lovely dogs and she and I get so few opportunities to show. I took a lesson with friends before I left, but still I know she did not look as good as she can. We work so hard on attention, she tends to watch me as we gait. I know her strengths and weaknesses, and we plan to enter the few local shows coming up in order to get ring practice.

My Sheltie, Ozma, earned a 199.5 in the Novice All Star competition and was part of a 3-way runoff. She came in 2nd...I cannot complain, as she worked her little furry butt off. Ozma also finished her UCDX, winning Open B on Saturday and earning a bumper leg on Sunday. Soleil was entered in Novice B just one day - Total Dog day. Despite doing nothing in breed, I decided to give her a whirl in obedience. We had some errors, but she managed a very nice 194.5. Now, she goes back to matches and training!

I love venturing "out of area." I see and learn so much. Phoenix was a sweetie!

I highly recommend the event.

Eleanor
