I don't worry too much about the actual weight.  Instead, I like to be able to see the indentation of the last couple of ribs, and also be able to just see the tops of the hip bones and spine.  I just slimmed my kids down a bit going into the the hot Texas summer as they do better carrying less weight.  Most people think my dogs are skinny, but if you look at any of the field dogs they are all very slim. Shorthairs typically appear skinny to most folks who do not know the breed. Even some vets will think they are too skinny when they are just right.  Problem is most folks don't know what the breed is supposed to look like.

Here is a picture of Ringo.  You can see his ribs in this one and if you look close you can also see the tips of his hip bones.  He is at his ideal weight right now.  Still needs some muscle in his chest, but then he is only a year old.

This is a picture of Haiko taken 2 weeks ago. I think he is looking a bit 'filled out'.(and he's wet).

Rocky was a fatty last fall at 93lbs He came down with pancreatitis. Now on a Canidae Senior low fat dog food. This Spring he weighed in 78.9lbs. Rocky's shoulders at the withers is 27" so he is as tall as the Golden in the back ground in this picture Not only is Rocky the same age as Chipper, Rocky is in the same weight range too

At their last vet visits, Bo (our 2 year-old male) weighed 69 pounds and Shiraz (our 4.5 year-old female) weighed 48 pounds. Bo is at the very top of the range for height and Raz is at the very bottom.

I forgot to mention that I've asked our breeder and others knowledgable about the breed, if they think Bo is the right weight, and they have all said he could lose a couple pounds. I agree. Even though he has a nice tucked up tummy, you can't see any of his ribs. Shiraz on the other hand can eat all day and she's still showing three or four ribs. (Most people think Bo looks fine and Raz looks aneroxic -- guess they are just used to chubby labs and goldens).

We have cut back Bo's food a little and added a bit to Raz's and no change for either of them. They each get at least four miles running each day with my husband or an hour of good hard off leash running. They both have good, healthy hearts and are very active all day, so I just a keep an eye on them both to make sure there are no drastic gains or losses.

If Layla has a full belly and hasn't been chasing too many squirrels then she tops the scales at a whopping 42 pounds. :) I work very hard at keeping her weight at 40 or above, she eats as much as (or more than) Daniel, but just burns it as fast as she can eat it. Daniel, on the other hand, is a very healthy 63 pounds. He has been as high as 65 and as low as 61. I prefer him on the lower end of that, but he just doesn't burn it the way my little Energizer Bunny Layla does. :D

Lola is a tall 53lbs, and she is very lean (sometimes that bony butt hurts!). I think having a little brittany pup to chase around keeps her in shape!

Gracie at 7 months is 22 inches and 43 pounds.  She could definitely use additional weight.  She has a few too many ribs visible.

Wow, that Ringo...fabulous! I like him.

Haiko, yep, that is the "roundness" I always watch for...kind of a Dalmatian look...it can happen within a few days, too. Then I up the exercise and skip the canned food for a day or two, voila, back to normal. I like to make it as easy as possible for her in the Georgia heat (our summers run  from April through October).

8 months:

11 months (nevermind the silliness of her surfing in the living room). I'd like more muscle though, and she is still narrow...

Tessa looks great. Don't worry about the chest. She is still pup. Halo really didn't get her chest until she was almost two. She was a late bloomer and didn't come in season until two. I think that once they come in season the chest starts really developing and they finish muscling out.

And yes, they can put on weight fast and lose is fast. I have not had weight problems on any of my dogs until they reach their full maturity. As pups it has always been hard to keep the weight on. Once Belle hit 1 YO (for Halo it was 2 YO), then I started to have to watch their weight. You would think I would have more problems with Belle since she is spayed, but not so. Halo has more challenges with gaining weight, but it always seems to be when she comes in season and just after she is done. I guess her body is storing fat in case she has puppies.

All -  Tugger is Ringo's brother.

Ryan -  You probably need to drop his weight a bit.  I was having problems with Ringo gaining weight until he went off to bird school in April.  He has been home a month and goes back this weekend, but we haven't had any problems with weight gain since he got back home.  I suspect those male hormones are kicking in since he is now a year old and not neutered.  You got Tugger neutered didn't you?  If so, that probably accounts for why he is putting on more weight.  Nothing to worry about, just have to watch them closer when they are fixed.

Leena is 42lbs.

I actually thought she was getting a little too full and cut her kibble back.

Hey, Leena is missing a leg to her pants. Love her markings. She is very flashy.

Bev - Any advice on how much (cups) food he should be getting a day?  His diet consists of only dry.  With occasional venison backstrap bits if he's a good boy.

Ryan -  I would just drop down what you are feeding him by a quarter of a cup and see how he does after a week or so.  If he drops the weight great, if not drop it a little more.  Then if he starts looking too thin you can add a little back in.  I like to see the shorthairs in TX on the thin side going into summer as it is much easier on them to handle the heat.  He will go through phases while he growing especially where you will need to adjust his food up and down.  Just watch he ribs, and as long as you can see those last two ribs he is a good weight.

The last time we had Murphy at the vet he weighed in at 63 pounds (just after his 1st birthday in April).  Since then I've noticed he's gotten a little "rounder" so in the last week we've cut back his diet a bit and are trying get back our slim and trim GSP.  At that 63 lb mark we could see those last 2-3 ribs but not so much now...and that's probably our fault.  We've been working a lot more hours the past few weeks and he hasn't been getting as much daily exercise with us (doggie daycare has been helpful!!!!)... so in addition to the "mini-diet" he's on, we're making a concerted effort to get our butts off the couch after work and take him on his daily off leash runs.

This is a picture I took of Murf over Memorial Day weekend during some training in the field right about the time I noticed he was getting a little thick (not a very good pic but the best one I have):

Just the one week on his cut back food portions has shown a tremendous difference and he already looks better!  These guys certainly gain and lose fast... if only it were that easy for me!

Wow, this is interesting.  Fred is 23" and only 46 pounds!

I can't imagine a 90 pound high speed GSP.  We have a CBR that is 90+, but thankfully she's not an energizer like Fred.
