Chipper weighs exactly 80 pounds and has for years - I was just wondering what your dogs weigh?

Ziva weighed 28 pounds at the Vet on Monday - she's 16 weeks old.

Ziva's weight would suggest she'll be 56 lbs or so as an adult, provided she doesn't get overweight. Truly not trying to hurt your feelings, just being honest - Chipper is chubby.

To answer your original question, our 6 GSPs weigh anywhere from the high 40s (females) to about 62 lbs, our male. Hope that helps.

Jean

LOL  no - he's not chubby... it's the way he was sitting for that particular picture... You can see ribs...there is only a slight covering over his ribs - this is a picture from last summer... he weighed 80 pounds then too.  He has weighed that since he was 3 and he's now 7.

At their last vet visits, Bo (our 2 year-old male) weighed 69 pounds and Shiraz (our 4.5 year-old female) weighed 48 pounds. Bo is at the very top of the range for height and Raz is at the very bottom.

Halo (4 YO female, 23 in at the withers) weighs 51, Belle (5 YO female 24 in at the withers) weighs 55, and Ringo (1 YO male, 25 in at the withers) last weighed 57 at 9 months. Haven't weighed him recently, but I suspect he is now around 60 pounds and will probably end up at about 65 pounds when he gets all his muscle.

Haiko is 26" and 70 lbs Bregon is 25 1/2" and 71 lbs.
Bregon is overweight by about 3-5 lbs. Different body types have different weight requirments.
I don't know how tall Chipper is but he does look to be over weight in both pictures.

Tessa weighs 45 lbs at 11 months, 23" at the withers. She weighed 24 at 3 months but has not gained much at all since maybe 7 months old.

Rayne and Tessa have pretty much followed the same growth rate. At 10 months, we were at the vet for Heartworm and she weighed 45lbs. I don't think she's changed in the past few weeks. Terra, her mother was just shy of 50lbs. Both girls are 23" tall.

Chipper is 27 inches at the shoulder - the pictures above is from today.  He's extremely muscular.... perhaps it's the pictures  - I really don't see what you are seeing that says he's chubby or fat!

I was just curious about the weights of most GSP's....

He doesn't look FAT to me, he looks okay on the top photo there, however, GSPs are supposed to be on the lean side, with a couple of visible ribs, muscled, but lean, so they can last in the field. On the second photo he looks too well covered. Is really tough to say though from a photo which can be very deceiving.

Satin, our 12 - 18 month old foster is 44 lbs.

Normally Breeze is around 50 lbs. but today she's almost 70.  Hopefully by tomorrow morning she'll weigh a little less .... she's in the early stages of labor right now.

It's really hard to get a good picture of him - when he's outside he's running constantly.  We have 40 acres and  runs probably 3/4 mile down to the creek and back every night - he is just hard muscle all over.

Unless I have something in my hand - he's not standing still.... lol

Ziva on her way back from the creek!  LOL

I didn't say Chipper was fat. I said over weight. Losing 5 or so lbs won't hurt him and he will keep his muscle.
GSPs are a breed that is meant to look 'skinny'. Having a few ribs showing is good.
Now that I look at both my dogs I think they both need to loose a little.

I will have to rephrase what I just posted. Chipper is fat.At least in the last set you posted. He has a fat roll around his neck that is not typical of GSPs.
Sorry to offend but if Chipper were my dog he would loose 8-10 lbs.
On the up side, he is a great looking dog. His pigment is even and a good color. He has a nice head and is muscular.

I struggle with the weight issue with my younger dog. He came to us a real porker and it has been a slow process to get him down. Growing has helped along with exercise and swimming, I can't begin to say enough of the benifits from swimming.

People see what they want to see - it's from the collar being too snug.  Thanks for your opinion...

Hi my male is 60 lbs and 3years old .my one female i had was 70 at tops and 26 inches tall no fat just longer legs but way to tall for a female ..I think it makes a difference if they are intacked or not.MY other female would put on weight by looking at the empty bowl. remember leaner is better on the hips and joints its easyer for them to jump in and out of the truck and hunt all day . i like picture 2. its early summer just wait til fall and he will be just right. i know with long cold winters they always gain a few.

My 5 year old Ziggy weighs in at 66, his momma Emma, (a really big girl) at 65. Then there's Hailey who just turned 3 yesterday and weighs 48 pounds, Belle at 13 months @ 46 # and youngster Dede at 5 months and about 32 pounds.

One thing with Chipper that many folks are missing is that he's a taller dog with a very, very deep chest. He wouldn't be the first GSP I've seen to weigh 80 pounds and some of them are "lardos" . He isn't. He looks like he is in "show weight" which usually is about 5 pounds more than a dog working in the field constantly shows. FWIW, Belle carries a very dark blanket over most of her trunk, and there are times I tend to call her my "liver sausage" as she looks kind of like a roll of summer sausage before its been cut. I think perhaps it may have something to do with the solid color rather than patterning.
