First - Photos can only be posted to Shorthairs.net site if they already exist on another internet site. If you already have your own web page, you simply upload the scanned image to your site and follow the directions I will give below in (1), if not, folow the directions in (2).

1) When you move your cursor onto the photo on YOUR website, right click your mouse. A drop down menu will appear. At the bottom is the word properties. Left click properties and a window will open showing the internet address of the image, the URL, in the box that says "Location". The code will start with http and end with jpg. In some cases it will also say thumb at the end.  If you leave that word in the code you will have a very small image to post. I recommend eliminating thumb from the code. If you left click on the text in the location box and drag your mouse over the entire address, it will be highlighted. Once highlighted, simply right click and click on the Copy.

Now go to the Shorthairs.net site where you already have a new post up and you want to add the photo. Look at the menu line right above the box you type into, and you will see a button that looks like a picture of mountains with a sun in it. If you click on that button a new box will open on the page. In that box will be a address line that says "URL". Right click on that "URL" box and click "Paste", which will paste the address copied from the "Location" box.

Click OK and the image will be added to the text of your post. Now when you post the message including the picture, it appears here at Shorthairs.net in your post.

2) If you do not have a web page there are certain sites that will host the images for you and most are free to sign up and use. Here is the procedure. I use photobucket.com, so I will use that as reference but there are a number of sites that will work.

So you have your image in your computer picture files or on a disc. You pull up the image and open the photobucket site. You then follow the browse and upload directions at photobucket to upload the photo from your computer file to a file in photobucket.

When you move your cursor onto the photo in photobucket, a drop down menu will appear with the titles;
,
, IMG Code. If you left click on the Direct Link, it will be highlighted and then you can right click on it and click "Copy". You have now copied that code into your computer.
The code will start with http and end with jpg. In some cases it may also say thumb at the end.  If you leave that word in the code you will have a very small image to post. I recommend eliminating the word thumb from the code.

So you have something that starts with http and says something along the lines http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a139/AHGSP/Img_0172r. jpg; minus the space between 0172r. and jpeg.

Right click on that "URL" box and click "Paste", which will paste the address copied from the photobucket "Direct Link" box.

Click OK and the image will be added to the text of your post. Now when you post the message including the picture, it appears here at Shorthairs.net in your post.

One other very important thing to consider is the file size of the image. A large image at high PPI will use lots of memory and take a long time to upload. Re-sizing your image in your computer prior to adding it to photobucket or Shorthairs.net to anything from 2x3 - 5x7 inches and selecting a PPI (pixels per inch) size of 72 will make for a relatively small file that is fast to upload and still has adequate detail for web uses.

Hope this is helpful!

Bruce,

How to add a pic as an avatar?  I did a search on the site with no results  and the profile didn't seem to have the field?
