Hello all.

I haven't posted too much in here, as I have spent more time just kind of lurking in the computer shadows, just takingin all the information I can about the GSP Breed.  AS it is, I am getting a new GSP pup in the near future.  i will be picking out my pup ina few weeks, and then picking him up from the breeder in April after returning from Overseas.  What can youall tell me about his bloodlines.  He will be a hunting dog, and family pet.

my pup:  name to be determined

Sire:  Old Hickory Smoke
     Sire:  2x CH General Norman
Sire:   3 X NFC/FC Rawhides Clown (Hall of Fame)
Dam:  6XNSTRA CH Hailey Von Firethorn

      Dam:   Fancy's Wild Child
Sire:  1xNSTRA Ch Whiskey Runs Dolamite
Dam:  21 X NSTRA Ch Fancy White Trash

Dam  :  Pedigree unavailable at this time

Based on what I see here, and what I think it means, I feel that genetics are stacked in my favor.  Just wondering what you all might know about these lines, and what I might expect.  I will be shooting quail over my pups sire and dam when I am home on leave.  Thanks again for any help you can offer.

The lines look great so far. Both show CH and field work dogs. Can't get too much better than that. It would be great to see such wonderfully stacked lines on the dams side.

Those are either NSTRA CHs or Trial CHs, none of those dogs have ever seen the inside of the show ring.

honeyrun,
is that a good or bad thing in this case. I am guessing probably a better thing, as I think I understand that the show dogs are GENERALLY bred for different traits, and often the hunting instinct isn't so prevalent. Should i expect this breeding to potentially give a good hunting pup.
Just wondering if anybody has hunted any of thes lines, or seen them work.

JMO: whether you want a dog with show or hunting lines is really up to you and your expectations. If you REALLY want a dog that looks a certain way, perhaps a show line dog is best. If you REALLY want a dog to hunt, one from hunting lines might be best. Either way, if you fall in love with the parents you're on the right track.

You'll find folks ardently loving both kinds as companions. :)

KDV,

It is up to up whether it is a good thing or a bad thing.  No matter what the bloodlines, a GSP should follow the standard for comformation and still have the field abilities.  I am not saying that they should be show dogs, I am saying that they SHOULD be able to walk in a show ring and look like what the standard says they should look like.

On the other hand, the show dogs should be able to walk into a field and hunt like a good hunting dog should.  They should be able to locate and point game.

That is why I love this breed, they can, and do, do both on a regular basis IF you do your research thoroughly.

Cindy Stahle,

General Norman was a NGSPA Champion. That is, AF Field Trial Champion. You could probably find more info on him at: http://birddogposse.netkennel.com/ At the very least, you will find info on the NGSPA. Curious of the Dams breeding......

Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.

Just a strange question---Was General Norman named in honor of Storming Norman Schwartzkoph?

While we're on the subject of bloodlines, I'm in Australia but my puppy's parents are both American imports. His parents and grandparents are mainly prefixed by Bleugras and Minado, with a few GDR's thrown in.
Does anyone know if these are good lines?

Can't tell you about those lines, but my puppy's sire was an import from Australia (out of Kruz Kennels). So we have a little Australian blood in us!

"Good" is in the eye of the beholder! ;-) Thus, if it's your dog....then it's a good dog!

These are  "Show" lines. Who are the Sire and Dam; Grand sire's and Grand dam's and I'm sure there are several on here that are probably very knowlegable of the specific dogs most likely. You might start by looking here:

Don't assume that these are only "show kennels".  Minado has produced several Dual champions, also.  Oxton's Lieselotte v Greif and Oxton's Bride's Brunz v Greif out of FC Greif v Hundscheimerkogel and Yunga War Bride.  Oxton's Minado v Brunz out of Brunz v Greif and A/C Ch Sorgeville's Happy Holiday come to mind.   DC Minado was handled to his field title by the breeder of the litter, Jake Huizenga, and finished as a Dual by his new owners Ken and Inge Clody.  (I'm quoting out of Georgina Byrne's book, Der Deutsch Kurzhaar).  The Clodys attempted to register their Minado prefix but were turned down on the grounds that it was too commonplace.  Nevertheless, most of the numerous Minado champions were bred by the Clodys.

Bleugras, in Wisconsin, is owned by Eve Gale.  While it is primarily a show kennel it got its beginnings from four daughters of "Traveler".  (Ch Gretchenhof Columbia River-Westminster winner).

GDR (Gold Dust Ranch) up in Washington State was founded by Dave and Kathy Gilliam.  Dave and his first wife, Donna, founded Donavin kennels and campaigned Ch Geezee Superchief to top ranking status.   Dave and Kathy continued the goals of breeding dual champion and dual quality dogs, and Kathy has continued with those aims following Dave's passing.  Many of their dogs have been exported to Australia and also to Canada and continue as successful personal hunting dogs.

It is fascinating doing pedigree research on the "old ones", and we can learn so much.  I'm proud to say that much of the good stuff (NMK, Rugerheim, Minado) is incorporated in my furtribe too.  Certainly they can hunt, all of 'em.

Sorry Phyllis, I was trying to be sarcastic by quoting the "Show" in my post. You know the gesture you make when you say something meant sarcastic and hold your hands up and bend your fingers, quote/unquote! Guess I didn't do very well at sarcasm! I know all too well these dogs can hunt and trained with 3 different breedings on these lines last year. All were enjoyable to work with in the Field. Anyway, YES! These dogs do hunt!

Funny..... I'm normally pretty good at sarcasm!

No problem, Bruce...no problem.  :)   Just antsy to get my bbe girl back out, get her finished, so we can get in the field and work on her dual.  Since Hailey is a Hero granddaughter with a sire out of Minado/Impressive we're anxious to see what the girls can do. (a litter sister is already running big in the field under Terry Chandler's guidance).

I am looking for some pics and some more info on General Norman as well. I am geting a pup this spring that is from a direct daughter of Gen. Norman and there are quite a few crosses of Rawhide's Clown. 33 FC and DC in 5 generations. I think it is a very good line. There is 6xCH Hailey von Firethorn, Kojac's & Dixielands in them too. Does anyone know where I can find some pics of these dogs or the owners site so I can look at them?

I am just trying to find some more info on the bloodlines. Let me know when you get your pup and the pedigree. Or maybe P.M. me with his info and I can see what he knows about the Norman Dog. Thanks.
