Well, that was an experience!
We decided to take Bogart down to Vermont with us while my husband did the Green Mountain Marathon in Vermont this a.m. (It really seemed like a good idea at the time!)
We booked at the Hawthorne Suites in Burlington (which was awesome -- their ad said "pet-friendly" and they SO were ... even had an Inn cat, Butterscotch .
The five hour drive from Ottawa went fine ... a little whimpery at first but eventually Bo crashed in his crate in the back. We arrived, checked in, played in the courtyard a little, barked at another guest's dog and started settling down for the evening.
1st mistake ... Bo gets an hour long walk every evening. Must remember to NEVER deviate from this.
2nd mistake ... Bo never gets on our bed ... nor will he ever after this weekend.

3rd mistake ... monitor intake of chew toys.
4th mistake ... don't let Bo stay up past his "bedtime"
So since we were having fun with him in the hotel room, chasing his wubba, flying off the bed ... we kept Bo up WAY too late before trying to settle him down for the night. While we could have dealt with his barking at 7 or 8 (It seems everyone was out for dinner then) by 10:30 and 11:00 we were beginning to panic that he wouldn't ever go to sleep. (He's not a real barker ... he'll whistle for awhile and then WHOOF!) Finally, Rich took him out for ONE MORE TRY around 11:30 and he had a BIG poop (since he consumed his entire pig chew in one go.)
Got everyone out to the race course this morning at 8 a.m. but we were all really tired...

And a half hour after the starting gong, the little pup was out like a light snoring his little head off. He slept all the way through the race, all the way home and went right in his crate after his post dinner toilet trips.
So I'm ignoring Mistake Number 1 and hoping he will sleep through the night tonight without a walk. Although, I don't have to worry about waking up guests at home .
Boy ... this raising a puppy is HARD work! |
