| Bless him - sleeping with his antler! I wonder if we can get them in the UK? There's a pristine nylabone in a dog bed somewhere resoundly ignored by both dogs. It's been kicking around for four years now! |

The deer antlers are wonderful (although my pampered pups preferred the small moose antler I procured for them ). I love the lack of smell and that they don't splinter. They are also (or so I have been told) chock-full of nutrients, too. |

| Good call on the deer antlers. I found an old shed antler last night that I've had for awhile and sawed the points off. Tugger has a new favorite toy. |

Bo is also one of those strong chewers. He's destroyed the large nylabone and knuckle nylabone within MINUTES!
After reading about deer antlers here, I bought some at the Sportman's show for Bo. They were maybe 4-5 inches long -- scraps from a furniture maker.
Bo loved them, but they made a huge mess in the house!! I think it was because they were cut shorter and it was easy to chew down in to the center.
I'm sure the longer ones would be great. |

The antler (or more likely the inside of it) got gummy and left little bits all over the floor. Sort of like chewed and spit-out pieces of rawhide. The pieces stuck to the fleece of his bed.

| Are they as good to chew as the plastic paddle from inside the washing machine Adder wants to know? He's enjoyed that today but would like something else now I've forcibly removed it from him (good job Amazon stock replacements). |

Oh no! Silly puppy!
I would imagine nothing is as wonderful to gnaw on as something they are not supposed to have... |

Hmmm, that is interesting as the antlers that Ringo chews on turn more into chalk and I never see any bits on anything. I wonder if the ones you got were not dried out as much? I will watch closely, but it sounds like this is something that you can't miss.
I'm wondering if perhaps the ones I got were kiln-dried (because they were from a furniture maker)? I don't know.

The day we brought Bo home (at 8 weeks) he decided cement curbs were great fun to chew. Thankfully, he outgrew that, right quick! |

Murphy's new "baby" (as we've taken to calling it) isn't messy in the slightest... I notice that it just seems to be wearing down almost like chalk would...
But I can see the "marrow" or whatever you might want to call it in the middle of the antler..and do wonder what may happen once he gets to that point... will it be gooey and messy? I guess we'll find out!
Murf is just shy of a year (April 11) and still manages to get into everything no matter how puppy proof I think my house is too! The only thing I find amusing about his "troublemaking" is that he always seems to think that he should bring me whatever he's gotten into and chewed to pieces! I can't help but laugh through the aggravation as he has brought me all manner of torn pillows, blankets, remote controls...you name it. Just last week he brought me a couch pillow that he had managed to unzip and take all the stuffing out of and decorate the house with. Thankfully the zipper was still intact so I could put it all back together again! He likes to bring his dad his wallet and his camera off his dresser... Hard to be mad at those sweet faces! |

| Ok I am in desperate need to find these antlers! I know you can order them but are you guys finding them in stores also? I've asked at all the local pet stores around here and just got blank stares from the employees. Nobody has ever even heard of such a thing! And I admit, I hadn't either. |

I got Murf's at a specialized doggie boutique out here in California. It so happens that I had gone to look for the "Goughnuts" that were mentioned earlier in this thread and on that website saw that this dog boutique near me was an authorized retailer of them. When I got there they were all out of the goughnuts (apparently quite popular! My name is now on a waiting list for the next shipment!) but I ran across the antlers. I was about to buy them online at Pet Expertise but these are the same brand. It's worth looking around at local "puppy boutiques" even those dog bakeries might have them... But I would venture to say your typical PetCo PetSmart type stores will not... I've even seen them sold at our doggie daycare... So there might be other options too... In case you want to explore that and save on shipping costs |

We picked up some antlers from everbell on Sunday. Bo didn't like them but my girls loved them! We cut off the sharp points and sawed one of the larger pieces in half so they could each have one. I wouldn't give them the antler in the house. Moka ate hers in about 1/2 an hour. I found Rayne with 2 smallish pieces that looked like a spare rib bone split in half. I was afraid she would choke on them so took them away. We now have 2 - 6" antlers left out of 4. I thought they would last much longer especially since my dogs love to chew their Nylabones and have had some of those for years. Maybe these antlers were different? How big an antler do people have?? Gail |
