Ever since I got Layla, there has been a nightly contest between her and Daniel to see who can get closest to me on the couch at night when all the walking, running & playing is over. Now, I have a couch, a love seat, a wing chair and a comfy dog bed in the living room, which should be PLENTY of space for me & two dogs, but since they are GSPs, they need to be close to their person, so we have a nightly game to see who can get closest to me.
One night, Daniel (65 pounds) was tucked between me & the back of the couch, with his head resting on my knees. Layla (41 pounds) won that night, though, since she curled up on the pillow, tucked around my head, with her nose resting on my shoulder. Last night she won again, mostly because she has no sense of personal space and will park that adorable little fuzzy butt anywhere she can. Daniel was in his usual spot between me & the back of the couch, head on my knees, so Layla parked her butt on top of his back and her nose on my stomach and they both snoozed for a couple of hours. Good thing it's cool in the house right now, otherwise I would have suffocated!
Before bed we go outside again to work off a little more energy (their energy, I haven't got any left at that point) and then we head up to bed, where the same contest takes place. You would think a queen size bed would be big enough to stretch out... but not if you have two Velcro dogs! |

I finally bought a queen sized bed although I'm the only human in it but it does no good. I still wind up with about 8" in the middle with Jasper and Chelsea on either side trying to squeeze closer. I feel like bologna in the sandwich.
The annoying thing is that Chelsea isn't really a snuggler, but she can't stand to see Jasper snuggling with Mom! So she gets next to me too just to assert her rights as top dog.

I know that sleeping position, legs straight out. Usually the legs push against one of us & his body pushes against the other!
it has always amazed me how much room they can take up with their legs stretched out & how small they look when their all curled up |

| We split ours up at night. Katie takes Stud, Matt takes Belle, and Mocha, Hunter, and Doddi come to bed with us. Thankfully we have a king size. Mocha is always by me. Her pillow is next to me. Hunter looks out the window all night off the foot of the bed. Doddi usually crams herself in between my wife and I. Mommy is hers and doesn't want dad by her! |

Angel is not much of a bed hog unlike Star. Angel loves to sleep sprawled out or curled up in a not with her head on the pillow. Star tries to squeeze between or lay on top of us. After awhile she will end up on the foot end.
Now with the weather slowly getting colder it's a fight with them for the covers. |

Have you guys always let your dogs sleep in bed with you? Bo just can't seem to settle down at night unless he is in his crate. Do you think this is something he may adapt to as he gets older? (He actually can't sleep outside his crate at any time of day ... he's like a cranky toddler who will go, go, go, until we physically stop him by putting him home.) Not that we have any extra room in our king-size bed with us and the two cats. |

No, we haven't always let Webster sleep on the bed. I fought it for the longest time & then finally caved. He seems to move around alot during the night, I'll wake up during the night & he'll have most of the bed, other time he'll leave & sleep in another room. I love Webster to pieces, however, if I had to do it over, I wouldn't let him sleep with us. I sleep through the night when's he's not on the bed. |

| Mocha stays right still by me. She even has her own pillow. When my wife gets up at 4:30 am Mocha takes her spot. Hunter is up and down a bit but only a few times. Doddi sleeps off the bed now until Pam gets up, then she'll snuggle up to me. She has claimed a spot off the foot of our bed on a blanket as her own. It was funny last night. We went to go to bed and Hunter was on her blanket, she just kept staring at him like HEY That's MY SPOT! He finally moved for her. LMAO |

I had been having mild aches in my left hip. During a 2 week vacation, WITHOUT the dogs, I didn't have a twinge. Now I'm home, and you guessed it. Proof that the problem is due to the unnatural, contorted, uncomfortable positions I'm FORCED into by the bed and blanket hogs. |

I didn't intend to let Daniel sleep in the bed, but one day when it was really cold (I'm a cheapskate, the furnace is kept at 50 degrees overnight) he nudged his way under the covers and curled up. It was so adorable that I didn't put a stop to it. When I adopted Layla she was crate trained and slept in her crate for two whole nights before she decided that if Daniel got to sleep in the bed she was going to as well. |
