OK, I misread.

The information I was sent states clearly that for entry into Canada, all that is needed is a rabies vaccination, current within the last three years. If one flew in, the airlines would require a helath certificate, but I can attest that one is not neede to cross the border in a car. Humans must have a passport.

Returning to the US, the rabies vaccination must have been given over 30 days prior and within one year. Some US states also require annual rabies vaccinations. NJ does not, but others definitely do and this may be the defualt Federal law.

Now perhaps the law has been changed, but that is what I have been told.

Only a lisc vet can do rabies, how do you get away with giving your own?  What land do you live in?  Ask your vet for a health certificate, it merely says dog has been examined by a lisc vet, and it is up to date on all vaccines, and in good health.  They generally don't charge more then an office visit and a look over, and you should be on your way.

sure you can... my mother gets them for the cats and all the dogs we have. I believe she gets her from petmeds.com but i couldnt find it.. but heres an example..

Maybe you can, but most of us cannot. If you click on the rabies vaccine mentioned in your link, the description clearly indicates that it is not for sale in certain states. That would be 33 states. (I counted.) That is because those 33 states require a veterinarian to give a rabies vaccination. And even in some of the states where the sale is legal, apparently a vet may have to administer the vaccination.

If you are going to Canada, you will need a rabies vaccination certificate. If you do not want to pay for a visit to the vet, look around for clinics. In NJ, towns often offer rabies clinics, where a vet gives the vaccination and isues a certificate.

well THAT isnt the website my mom goes for the dogs we have. She's got a catalog and our vet knows about it and they dont see anything wrong with it.. just cheaper to do. I'd have to look at our catalog but shes been doing this for years and never had a problem. we do get other stuff too. Sorry to hear your state and others that dont allow it, i guess im just lucky to get it. However our vet is a close friend of ours and he knows we do this and i dont think id have a problem getting a cert for my dog. Just never been to AK with a dog before.
