I may take a trip to Alaska for a summer get away there.. However, Remington is going with.. what would i need for Remington at the border for us to drive through Canada? proof of rabie shots and his papers? my dad mentioned something like a health paper of some kind.

Ask your vet, they should know.  Your dog needs to be up on vaccines and have a health clearance.  You will need the paperwork from your vet to prove it.  Just tell the vet you are traveling through Canada and they should know exactly what you need (It is more than just the normal vet records.).

We've gone across the border (by car) with Bo from Canada into the US ... had our ownership papers and proof of vaccination. Both times – leaving Canada into the US, and leaving US into Canada – we stated we had these papers. They barely glanced at it.

I wonder if we hadn't volunteered the information if the border guards would have had different reactions ...

well you are a US resident and dogs arent exotic animals so im not surprised that they wont care.. but to canada... some dogs are exotic to them and has to be reviewed before entering. Just like some catus from other countries carry spiders and arent allowed into the US and can be lethal with climax change.

to cross the Canada-US border with dogs all you need is proof of valid rabies vaccination, aka rabies vaccination certificate, which is available from your veteranarian.

that's it, that's all. I adopted Michigan from a shelter in the US and brought her back to Canada, we also had to bring our other dog down to meet her at the shelter so I've done it both ways.

like everbell said, they probably won't care/look at the information but you'll want to have it in case someone's having a bad day and wants to hassle you.

No, check the link in my previous post, scroll down the page until you get to PETS. You need signed certificates if they ask, tags are considered insufficient.

If you bring a pet dog or cat at least three months old from the United States, you must have a certificate to show that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies within the last three years. The certificate has to be dated and signed by a veterinarian, and it must identify the animal by breed, age, sex, coloring, and any distinguishing marks. Animal tags are not acceptable in place of certificates.

Ask a vet? They might be able to provide you one, probably for a fee.

Only a lisc vet can do rabies, how do you get away with giving your own?  What land do you live in?  Ask your vet for a health certificate, it merely says dog has been examined by a lisc vet, and it is up to date on all vaccines, and in good health.  They generally don't charge more then an office visit and a look over, and you should be on your way.

No, it is easy to misunderstand that.

The rabies vaccination must have been done at least 30 days before the crossing. If you have had one done at anytime in the 3 years before that you are ok.
