I need to buy a new crate for travel for my GSP, I'm wondering what size crate some of you use for travel.  I have a pretty large one for the house but don't need quite the size to throw in the back of a truck or jeep.

Specifically the depth and height is what I'm wondering.

We have the Petmate Dogloo -Innovator 450 (about 26" tall x 36" long).

We also have a larger one.

The dog should be able to stand up and turn around inside it.

I use wire crates that are 36" long, 24" wide and 30"tall. They fit nicely 2 side by side in my Grand Caravan. If we need to we pop the seats in the middle row into the floor and can fit a third crate.

How tall is your dog at the withers.  I use a 26 high crate for all three of my shorthairs ranging from 23 inches to 25 inches.  For my car I have a Vari-Kennel deluxe (it is Blue), I think it is a Large.  For everything else I use soft sided crates as they are lighter to carry around to shows and field events.

What size is the dog? I prefer the smallest plastic crates I can stuff the dogs into since I'm usually hauling <1 hour on snow/ice/lumpy gravel roads. Right now I'm using a couple of the intermediate (32x22), and putting 2 30 lb females into one and a 55 lb male into the other... maybe it's not ideal, but I'm hearing a lot of banging around back there as it is when I hit rough road. Especially if I've got only one of the girls loaded up. :(
Obviously heat isn't as much of a concern in our situation. Hopefully my future includes getting a truck that doesn't drink so much gas so I can start using my Uplander box again... it's got fairly small holes, but it's insulated and has slider vents on the side. It actually stays pretty cool in there even with a dog inside in the summer.
