Brittney is a beautiful Pointing Dog. My neighbor hunted with 2 of them. Today their daughter who doesnot hunt, has a Brittney just for the pure love of the breed. Alot of people donot realize the Brittney is a Pointing dog, I wonder if the Brittney is the only Pointing Spaniel?? My guess it is as my book TO THE POINT, author Dale c. Spartas and Tom Davis , only mentions the Brittney in the Spaniel catatgory as a pointer.

Juno as a puppy about 3 years ago. This was his first real point. It was on a little song bird.

Linda, Oh Gee!! Who would ever figure to call a liver , with white leg ticking Bo a Chocolate Lab, heeler Mix??? Some people??? Wonder how many call all liver GSPs Chocolate Lab mixes??

We got Bo from a county shelter (but not the county where we live).  I sent in the information to our county for his license: "Male, neutered, German Shorthair, liver and white."

When the license info came back, his color is noted as "chocolate."

Well many no longer classify the Brittany as a spaniel due to its hunting style...primarily because it points.  The Brittany is a very old breed of dog; one of the first somewhat modern (I guess if you want to call it that) versatile breeds from Europe.  My true love for the breed is for its compact size and its very gentle disposition.  They are indeed soft to touch and soft emotional compared to GSP's.

Tracking a rabbit drag as a 10 month old pup last winter(spring).

Since we got Lilly we I've had my hands full during the off leash romps in the fields and woods near our house.  This one was when lola was about six months old pointing a dove.

and another when she was about 9 months.  I think it was a goose

Awesome Lola Points on the Dove and Goose.... Murphy's white GSPs Points are spectacular!! How do you keep them so clean with their white bodies??? Got to be a challenge some days!!

Just love the Grassy Green background in C Dansan " pointing at the butterfly"!! (Especially since the mid west is being hit with another snow storm!!!)

Murf is all liver and I can't tell you how many times we get asked if he is a Chocolate lab. It infuriates my boyfriend to no end! But I just laugh and tell them no, he's a rare German Chocolate Lab... LOL!

These are amazing pics.

But I have a questions - this is coming from a non-hunting GSP owner. Do pointers inherently know how to do this or do they have to be taught? Osiris does this sometimes on his own, but it's not as "pretty" as some of these. He will also sometimes lift his back leg instead of his front. Any insight?

I think Points are inherited and can be any body shaped with one leg or another lifted. Head and snout pointed toward prey. GSP or Brittney at a stand still, locked on point!! Eyes focused solid on prey. Not taught just natural!!

I think intensity is something that comes with exposure. Some dogs though are more intense from the beginning.  It has allot to do with their prey drive.  If you encourage and work the prey drive, that would probably help the point.  My oldest points the Frisbee when she wants to paly and the intensity of that point is amazing.  My boy Ringo who has been on birds and I am working in the field is equally intent when he points quail or other types of game birds. both has been very intense in their points early (Belle at about 6 months and Ringo at 4 months).

Photobucket gives you several different link options, you can copy the one that startes with [ IMG ] directly into your post, as well.

This is really just an excuse to see if I can post photos again--pasting the IMG tag. . .this is Chelsea trying to see if there is a RAT on the birdfeeder.  (I think its too big although I did resize it. )

Congratulation at posting your first picture Chelsea is a real beauty with a keen nose on her prey. Is it hard to keep a white coat on a GSP clean? Or does the mud or dirt rub off easy when she gets into splashy muddy Spring time activities??
