Just an interesting bit of trivia, but the standard poodles show in the Gun Dog group in UKC.  Gun Dog is equivalent to the AKC Sporting Dog group.  We'rs so used to thinking of poodle as foo foo dogs, but they started out as gun dogs.  There is a poodle group in Houston that is actually training and hunting their poodles.

I don't have a fav in the GSPs today, but it was nice to see some of the CHs with JH, SH and MH (hunt titles) after their names.  Now if we  could only see some CDs and CDXs (obedience titles) after their names too. Fot those that don't know, I am a bit partial to obedience competitions and GSPs do great in obedience.

I doubt it, Laura. It will be available afterwards and before the groups however...I hope!

I too hope we get to see the Shorthairs before the groups.  I think it will be close though as it usually takes them a couple of hours to post the video (and they get slower as the day progresses), and the Sporting group will be first up this evening.

I won't get to see the Sporting group live either as I am teaching a puppy class this evening.  I am recording it though.  Same thing happened to me when Carlee won a few years back.  The problem with that is everyone that came into the training center knew who won, and since it was a shorthair they all made sure I new , so I didn't even get the element of surprise. Still it was fun that a shorthair won.

I dont think people hunt with Poodles in our area as the hunter would have to spend an hour or two picking briars and prickers out of their fur. Even on trail walks in the past,I would have to spend a half hour picking briars ,stickers and prickers out of my Chese/Lab Snickers while Rocky would just have to pick a briar or 2 on his collar, nothing on his body!!

i had a Standard a few years ago that I was training as a Service Dog for a family in FL. He was so amazingly smart and loved to go exploring in the woods. They are a lot more hardy then people assume :)

I know Standard Poodles are also trained to be seeing eye dogs for the blind, because of their intelligence and non allergy fur. I attended a See and eye dog seminar once to learn about Seeing Eye Dogs. .. Kerplunk all your dogs in your picture are spectacular!! Your Standard is very handsome. Wonderful you train Service Dogs!!!

While waiting for the GSP video to go up...this will tide you over. Puppy sweepstakes. Beautiful!

Can't find any info on the pups though.

Standard Poodles can compete in AKC Retrieving Breed Hunt Tests -- at a poodle specialty a few years ago I saw a poodle shown in the corded coat that had a MH sire and SH dam and had a JH themselves -- they didn't place however -- so they can retrieve!

Did you notice that Westminster GSP entry #7 is Katie Tazza's Dual Champion: DC AFC Up N'Adam's Case in Point SH -- it is rare to see an entry of a Dual at this level in conformation -- very cool.  I believe this was the same GSP entered last year at the NSS in the Dual Champoion class.

Also note that three GSPs entered this year had Rally titles (two RN and one RE) and one also had a CD, including Shane & Christine Baxter's MH/RN (he has done a wonderful job with his dogs) (co-owned by Lucretia Coonrod).

There are several GSPs entered that I'm rooting for and I'm anxiously waiting for the results.

For those wanting an early glimpse from WKC week sweeps for shorthairs, here is a link curtesy of Julie Lahr from CA.

Hopefully, this will keep you guys entertained until they post the results today.

TessaGA,

I know 2 of the 4 entries in the 9-12 puppy sweeps that you posted. #15 is Lorena Clark and Redrock Speedway Full Throttle aka Chevy. #17 is Laura (owner, breeder, handler) and Redrock Ring of Fire aka Cash. They are litter brothers. Cash is looking for a home.....

I don't recognize myself these days...Tessa is my first GSP. I got her not to show but because I wanted a fun dog I can do stuff with, that is healthy, from a good breeder. Next thing I know I am going to dog shows and refreshing the WKC site every 3 seconds.

I was brainwashed. By Tessa, and by the breed.

Join the club.  I was the same way.  Got Belle because I wanted a dog to hike with and who had shorthair and a breed with few health issues, and the next thing you know I am showing her in obedience.  Then of course Belle needs a buddy, enter Halo.  Had to get a show quality shorthair though because by then I was hooked and wanted to try my hand at conformation.  Well 2 weren't enough so I got Ringo this summer and decided to also get involved with hunt testing.

In addition to the the agility and flyball that we dabble in.  All because I wanted a dog to hike with that was wash and wear.
