I used to feed Graham Blue buffalo Wilderness he did well on it but I did not like the price, especially with our first kid on the way. I looked into some new foods and came across ACANA, it is from the same people that make ORIJEN. The only difference is that ACANA is 60% animal ingredients and 40% fruits and vegatables. Compared to ORIJEN that is 70% and 30%. I get it for the same price as Blue Buffalo but I also gets 5lbs more of food per bag. Graham has only been on it 5 days but everything has gone well so far.

Ingredients:
Chicken meal, russet potato, fresh free-run chicken, peas, chicken fat (preserved with
mixed tocopherals and rosemary), fresh walleye, pumpkin, fresh whole eggs,
sun-cured alfalfa leaf, fresh northern Lake Whitefish, chicken cartilage (a natural
source of glucosamine and chondroitin), red delicious apples, carrots, turnip greens,
organic kelp, organic bladderwrack, organic dulse, juniper berries, cranberries,
Saskatoon berries, angelica root, chicory root, red clover, red raspberry leaf, dandelion
root, peppermint leaf, marigold flowers, chamomile flowers, rosemary extract,
Enterococcus faecium.
Vitamins (vit. A, vit. D3, vit. E, niacin, riboflavin, lysine, thiamine mononitrate, vit. B12,
pyridoxine, folic acid, biotin). Minerals (iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, manganese
proteinate, cobalt proteinate, copper proteinate).

cane72,

I've been feeding Acana for about 2 years now and am very happy with it. The dogs love it. They look good and it's reasonably priced.

Thought I'd jump in with another opinion since food is a really important issue! Joey eats solely Orijen Adult. She started in Innova Large Breed puppy but we switched from Innova because of the Proctor and Gamble purchase (althought I'm hearing from Texas Belle this hasn't affected the Innova line).

After going through a few of the big bags of Orijen (about ~$59 here), We experimented with a 35lb bag of Acana (~$50, same great company, just less meat sources) and although Joey really liked it, she ate A LOT more of it and her coat got noticably less shiney on Acana. We switched back to Orijen and I don't think money wise it makes a difference because she eats less. Her coat is great again, and we have no complaints.

If we didn't like Orijen so much I'd go with Taste of the Wild, its quite a bit cheaper at Tractor Supply and grain free as well.

Ground Rice - white rice - all of the nutrients and fiber removed
Corn Gluten Meal - protein part of corn used to increase protein percentage cheaply, very low digestibility, common allergen
Wheat flour - one of the most common allergens
Ground Rice, Rice Bran, Rice Flour - "splitting"
Poultry fat - The rendered fowl can be obtained from any source, so there is no control over quality or contamination. Any kind of animal can be included: "4-D animals" (dead, diseased, disabled, or dying prior to slaughter), turkey, chicken, geese, buzzard, seagulls, misc. roadkill, birds euthanized at shelters and so on. (dogfood project)
Soybean Oil - one of the most common allergens
menadione - synthetic form of vitamin K. linked to many serious health issues.

Way overpriced for the quality. Costs about the same as quality foods that don't contain these horrible ingredients. Orijen, Blue Buffalo, Wellness, Castor & Pollux, Pinnacle, Dogswell, Halo, Merrick, Solid Gold, Canidae, Taste of the Wild - all much better foods for about the same money.
