Adder is not himself. Hasn't eaten in over 24 hours and can't even be tempted with his favourite treat of a jumbone (chewy bone thing) which is unheard of. He was sick twice this morning with small amounts of frothy bile. He's looking a bit sorry for himself and lying on the sofa. I've felt his tummy and he doesn't appear to be in pain or bloated. he had a drink of water earlier but that's all. Any ideas as to when I should start to worry and go to vets? It's very unlikely he's eaten anything he shouldn't. I think if he starts throwing up again I'll take him.

Once I start to wonder, I usually take mine in to be seen. |

| They can become dehydrated very easily, so I would choose the "better safe than sorry" option & call your vet. Hope he feels better soon! |

Call your vet. As uno says, better safe than sorry. Phyllis |

Unproductive puking is a possible symtom of bloat.

| if you are worried then you should go to the vet, if nothing is wrong the exam fee is worth the piece of mind you get knowing your pup is okay. Let us know how it goes. |

| Off to the vets later. He wasn't tempted by freshly cooked chicken or tuna - usually favourites of his. Not sure if this is relevant, but he's got a big patch of fur on his back towards his tail that started to stand on end on Sunday (when he went off food). Definitely not his hackles but its started coming up when he was out in the cold but also sometimes indoors. It feels very odd - all soft and velvety. Anyone else seen this? PS he's feeling well enough to yell at the postwoman through the door earlier! |

| Been to vets and had a check up. Nothing appears wrong apart from temperature up a tiny bit. Vet gave him an antibiotic shot and a vitamin shot and some easily digestible cans of food to try. Wants to see him tomorrow and if he's still not eating will run some blood tests. Poor boy - the antibiotic shot bothered him (vet warned it might) and was all itchy, we got home and he threw up all over the stairs. Now feeling VERY sorry for himself. Vet said he can give anti-emetic if needed. Such a worry when they're poorly. |

The "psuedo-hackles" sticking up probably means he's in pain. I've seen this in my girls during labor, and when I've had to remove cactus needles that were buried deep - like in their tongues and such. |

| Just left him at the vets to have an abdominal x-ray in case of a blockage and some blood tests. Still not eating and more vomiting last night. Starting to worry now. |

*says a lil prayer*
Our Dalmatian had these symptoms, and it turned out to be liver disease. Don't mean to frighten you, but get that sweet baby tested.
keep us posted!

| There's no blockage but pancreas/liver area looks 'blurred' on the x-ray. Vet thinks it could be pancreatitis, which fits with his symptoms. He's had a blood test which will be due back tomorrow. It was touch and go whether he would have to stay in vets with an IV drip for fluids, but vet is now happy to let him come home in 30 minutes. Thinking about it, he had fatty lamb mince on Saturday/Sunday morning which he hasn't had for ages. That's two meals with much more fat than his usual tripe and biscuit, which can trigger pancreatitis. Poor dog. |

| Just picked up a very wobbly GSP from the vet. He was sedated for the x-ray. Lifted his leg for a pee and fell over, bless him. He's nil by mouth, except electrolyte mix in water until results from pancreatitis come back tomorrow. I had to carry him upstairs and put him on the sofa where he's having a nap now. Holly (his little sister) is scared of him because he's acting weird (walked into a wall before I could get to him). He has his green bandana on that the vets give to brave pets! Thank goodness for pet insurance.............. |

Hope Adder is feeling better. We're tossing the same question around this a.m. Bo woke up today with very goopy eyes and very lethargic. Can't figure out what is wrong, but hubby is working from home today, and has decided to take him into the vets a little later. (I'm thinking maybe had an allergic reaction to the foam pillow he destroyed last night ??? |

| He's much perkier today. Was quite worried last night as he took an unusually long time to come round from his sedation and was very wobbly. We're still waiting on the pancreatitis test to come back but the vet said he could eat (special tinned food) if he wanted. His lipase levels are raised (from other blood tests) which again points towards a pancreas problem. He's eaten a few mouthfuls which is the first thing in 4 days! He's been staring longingly at the 'snack cupboard' in his slightly OCD way - no way puppy. I can here the noises of two stir crazy GSPs play fighting up and down the stairs at the moment so he's definitely feeling better. Thanks for your kind thoughts x |

| As predicted fussy boots won't touch his special tinned food but has managed three meals of chicken and white rice (with some tinned food snuck in). Still waiting on pancreatitis test but he's back to his normal self, just a bit skinnier! |
