I am leaning toward her not being pregnant as it has been three weeks and NOTHING has changed with her. No weight gain and such. But I also will make sure I watch closly over the next few weeks to make sure. As I would think she would start gaining weight soon if she is pregnant.

Believe me I did do my research on my dogs bloodlines. My first male I didn't to research on but he has turned out wonderfully and such. My other two dogs come from very well known breeders with very well known lines. Tundra's lines are known to be on the small side of the standard. I was just talking a bit ago to the breeder of her and he said most of his dogs don't start to really blossom out until after a year. I know she will get that inch and I am not too worried about that.

I am not for creating another breed but it would be kind of nice to have min-GSP's like the Min-pins for those who can't have the large dogs due to apartment issues or rentals and such. I am not going to promote breeding small but in the future I do plan on finding a male on the small side of standard to breed her with. I have had more people tell me that once she is fully trained for hunting I probably will prefer to hunt with her over my larger male. They have all told me that they like hunting with the smaller GSP over the larger.

Time will only tell. I will breed to standard as well.

Hi Beth, I noticed you said you also breed horses? I grew up on an Arabian ranch wich has now been downsized to miniatures (not by breeding). I know the mare determines the size of the foal so I am wondering if this is same with dogs? It would be interesting to see a mini GSP, but they would be easy to loose in tall grass, LOL. you would need GPS for your GSP!  Andrea

Molly varies between 45# and 50#. She seems smaller than most of the GSPs at the off leash park. We don't hunt or show but she can outrun anything she has come up against at the park and can clear logs and handle gulches with ease. After about 15 minutes of leading the pack she goes off on her own to see what kind of birds and critters she can kick up.

I like mine that are the smaller side of the bredd. Belle is small but she is by far the fastest dog I have ever seen. She is like a bolt of lightning when she runs. Poor Hunter doesn't stand a chance. She flips him, rolls him, even spins him out in the yard. So much fun to watch. Doddi is going to be small too. She is fixed but is still to the standard. She is quick too. I am going to try her with the dock jumping too soon I hope.

Pointer fan- any pics of Molly? Here is Belle

My brother has an 80# lab and was hunting pheasants last week in Iowa with his lab, two griffens and some small labs that a guy in Minnesota was breeding. The males ran about 50# and the females 35# to 40#. He said they work faster and longer than the bigger dogs, don't have hip dysplasia and one of them was 15 years old--very unusual for a Lab. Maybe smaller is better. By the way, his lab holds a point and kicked up 4 roosters and 3 hens. He was the first of the group to get his limit.

By the way Ace, I think we should get a look at Shadow. He could be an honorary GSP for a day.
