No advice, just a line from Dr Ian Malcom (Jeff Goldblum) in Jurassic Park: "John, the kind of control you're attempting is not possible. If there's one thing the history of evolution has taught us, it's that life will not be contained. Life breaks free. It expands to new territories. It crashes through barriers. Painfully, maybe even… dangerously, but, and… well, there it is.....I'm simply saying that, uh, life finds a way." |

| Take her to another vet and get a 'mismate' shot. |

I have heard of the shot but non of the vets here will give it as they had started to get a high case of uteris infections when giving the shot. And if this type of infection takes place then surgery is immediatly needed or the dog will die! So they all stopped giving it. I was going to do an ultra sound after 15 days possibley but I was hoping to be able to save the money if I would be able to tell myself. |

I would just wait Beth, if she is pregnant you will know soon enough. Belle was so different the day after. She will start to show very quickly. Just keep her away from Moose just in case she isn't. Then after I think it was 45 days we got an ultrasound so we knew what amount of pups to expect. That was good because we ended up with 10 and the last one was about 2 hours after the rest of them! If I didn't know the pup probably would've died. My friend who breeds these dogs almost lost his female because she had 2 dead pups inside her. It was like 2 days and she was acting all sick. He took her in and they found them and removed them. Lucky she didn't get an infection and die. Let me know what you find out. It would be cheaper to wait just a little while because believe me she will show!
Thanks for the FYI on that shot too! |

| Talk about bad timing though. We are adopting a child from Guatemala and will be hopefully picking him up in December or January. So if she did get pregnant then there will be pups around too and talk about hard to fnd someone to watch her when we are gone for a week.... I am sure it will all work out the way it is suppose to though.... UGH! |

The traditional "mismate" shot, was I believe, a shot of estrogen which was known to lead to Pyometra(??), infections and cancers. Have your Vet look into Prostoglandin. They do the injections at 21 days, AFTER confirmation that she is carrying and keep her for 2-3 days due to the nausea associated with the shots and to keep an eye on the female. No dangerous side effects as with the previous shots and the female can be bred later in life if deemed suitable. As I said, have your Vet look into it, they may not be overly aware of the procedure. My previous Vet wasn't, now it is the main offering after spay in his office. |

| Ha Ha Ha! Very funny. It will keep things on the entertaining side I guess. Not that I am in it for the money but it may help meet ends too with me being off work. All in all I just hope he didn't cover her or she didn't take. I am going to let things play there course I guess! |

I believe it is lutelyse (that spelling isn't correct, but close) vets give it all the time with no ill side effects. Had a freind had to get one last week, well, not him but his dog. She is fine. I wouldn't count on pups helping to make ends meet, unless these are highley titled dogs with health clearences, even then if you have a c section or lose pups, it is risky. |

| Sorry guys I have to stick with what the vet will or will not do. I know I won't make much money at all on pups. That is not my intention at all. When I am off work for three months when the child comes home even $1 more than what I have is gonna help. My dog is more important than the money she could bring in. If it were about money I would have purpously bred her at this cycle and everyone after it. That is not what I am going to do and in no way was I intending this to happen. |

Just a few observations from a grandmother: 1. If people waited until they could truly afford kids, there would be very few kids around. 2. Most things work out far better than we think they will if we just relax and don't interfere to much. 3. Develop a sense of humor. It makes things easier. I can honestly say that I laughed every day during a year of cancer treatment except the day I had to put my dog to sleep. It may have seemed crazy to a lot of people but it was better than crying. 4. Accidents are just that----accidents. Don't let people judge you. Kids and GSPs are a wonderful combination. Think of all the love you are going to have in your life. |

Just want to make sure I was not misunderstood. 1st: I wasn't "judging" anyone or their decisions. Last I knew, there is only one entity qualified for that job "IMO" and it sure as heck isn't me. 2nd: I was under the impression from your initial post that you were looking for a safe alternative to spaying so you might breed your 2 in the future, once of proper age and properly health tested to your satisfaction and only offered up a known safe alternative from my own experiences. My mistake for thinking I was offering a helpful solution when in fact, you were not looking for a solution. My sincerest apologies. Good luck with your possible litter and a GREAT BIG CONGRATS on your child and good on you for adopting. |

Bruce- I didn't think you were juding me in the least. I actually felt kind of bad for making it sound like I was getting into breeding for the money so that I wanted to clarify. I was looking for a possible solution but after checking with every vet in the area NONE of them will do anything to have her absorb the possible pregnancy except for spay and I am not going to do that. Each of them have also seen her personaly at their clinics and thus each of them told me sure it isn't the ideal way, time or age to have her have the pups but it won't harm her physically. That is what is most important to me. Even though I did mention the other options to them none of them would advise to me to do them. Not that it is harmful but just that they don't know enough first hand to recommend any other treatment. I do thank you for your advice an possible solutions! My son will hopefullly be 1 years old or less when he comes home. His birthday will be January 20th 2008! So it is kreeping up on us for sure!!! I just hope the process will speed up enough to have him here for his first birthday. I will keep you all posted! Thanks! |

| We will definitely want pics of him!!! Adopting is so wonderful!! I have 3 sons that I gave birth to & the last one we adopted. It was a private adoption so we didn't have the red tape that you have. I was actually in the delivery room when he was born & flew from Calif. to Minnesota with him when he was 3 days old!! He was supposed to be my girl, hahahaha We now have 4 sons, 3 grandsons, 3 boy dogs, 3 boy horses, seeing a pattern??? hahaha. We are getting a step-granddaughter soon, although we never say step, just like we never say we have a adopted son. He IS OUR SON & he says we are his parents. He just turned 18!!! It has been a wonderful journey! GOOD LUCK! Oh & the pups will just add some excitment!! |
