Just took her temperature. Its at 99.9. She is resting in her whelping pen. No real signs of restlessness. Sigh. I just want them to come already! She is so huge now that I feel so bad for her =/ but she looks good. I will keep you all updated through out the night. It should be soon...

But when it did drop, how much of a drop was it? If it was 1.5 to 2 degrees, and then came back up, she needs to deliver those puppies within 24 hrs of the drop. If it was only say a half degree, that's just normal fluctuation.

at noon today Baileys temp dropped to 99.8 now at 9 pm it is at 97.8 So we can expect puppies very soon. she is pacing and is uncomfortable and her breathing has become more labored. I will keep you all updated! Tonights most likely will be a crazy one!

YAY! The clock starts at 9pm then. If she hasn't delivered a pup by 9pm tomorrow, she needs to be seen by a vet as she may be in uterine stasis.

I might be telling you what you already know (better safe than sorry), but besides the above, here are the other danger signs that say you need to get to a vet asap:

As Phyllis said, if you see the green goo (uteroferritin - sp?) before the first pup is delivered, you have placental abruption and the pups are in trouble. GO NOW if this happens. After the first pup is delivered, it is normal, albeit gross to see this. It is broken down placental blood that is housed between each puppy.

If Bailey strains and pushes for more than 90 min straight and hasn't produced a pup, she needs help.

If more than 3 hrs goes by in between puppies without her pushing, she may be in uterine stasis and needs help.

If she's panting and uncomfortable, I think it will happen during the wee hours. ALL my girls have their babies in the wee hours. While I realize that's survival instinct, I think it's also just to torture the humans.

When my girls start to ask constantly to go outside as labor progresses, it's because they feel the need to push and are misinterpreting that as the need to poop. Eventually, when I can see we are getting close, I tell them tough luck and make them stay inside. You don't need a pup delivered outside in the winter especially.

Good luck!

Jean

The waiting is torture! My girls always had civilized afternoon litters. I don't think you'll be so lucky. Things should start very soon.....

No puppies yet. We visited the vet and found out this lil fact: 80% of dogs whose temp drops will have puppies with in the first 24-48 hours however the other 20% temp taking doesn't work and you have to watch for other signs. Well Bailey happens to be in that 20% and the vet said she is doing just fine (which takes a lot of stress off me). There is no blockage and the puppies are still very very active. So we get to wait it out and see. Sigh.

I will I have lost a lot of sleep the last two nights (first night checking on her ever hour, and last night going to the vet). I am so ready for theses puppies to be here and I know Bailey is too. Poor Bailey she is so BIG but other then being uncomfortable she is doing great. I will keep you updated. *Patiently waiting* Sigh

Oh boy!! Bailey has a chance of having NEW YEAR DAY puppies Wouldn't that be great. Although tough on the family who are losing sleep.

The temp thing never did work on our first litter. One day it would drop a few digrees then 4-6 hours later be back up. The day she had the pups it was very obviouse something was happening as she was NOT herself at all!

Oh I love the excitement of waiting for a new litter! Especially saying it isn't me waiting with the mother! LOL. You can do it. :-)
