It was 58 degrees here on Saturday. Snow and -3 degrees yesterday. -15 degrees today. Had a big old winter Robin sitting in crab apple tree above the pond today.
Bet he wished he had gone south. It was so cold that Molly sat in front of the patio door and watched the squirrels. More snow tomorrow.

When I remember to bring my camera in to work I'll have some major ice storm pics. Daniel, Layla & I had a rough night Thursday into Friday. The trees snapping from the ice sounded like a firing range & then there was the sound of the power lines being ripped from the house... and the transformer exploding... and... well, anyway, if I have power back before 2009 I will be shocked! Once the noises stopped the dogs calmed right down and fell in love with their new obstacle course. I lost at least 100 trees. :(

Sorry to hear about your trees---looked really bad back there on the news. We've had ice storms like that but we don't have nearly
that many trees. Hope you have a wood stove so that all that timber doesn't go to waste.

Oh Middleofnowhere, Our prayers are deeply with you.  We had the warm weekend in the high 30s with rain, but the winds were high and dried everything up before the temp dropped so no ice storm on the wires for us.  Very greatful and thankful especially hearing on the news about the terrible ice storm the eastern states have suffered. Like you said no one knows when your power will be back on. Us in the Northern states are now alerted to the need to have alternative energy sources and portable heat sources for back ups incase the power does goe off for what ever reasons. Now we brace for a possible big storm of 10 or above inches that could dump on Us this thursday into friday. At least the temps will be back in the 20s as below that our GSPs are pretty much shut down for outside long runs with windchills 30 to 40 below zero!! ...Will be looking forward to your pics when you can Middleofnowhere. Hope your power is back on soon.

I am just glad that I have a wood furnace and a propane kitchen stove! I feel terrible for people who don't. Now if I could just flush the toilet without lugging water up the hill from the brook I'd be quite cozy. :)

Spectacular pictures, but that is easy for me to say from Texas. It is cold here in the 30's, but no ice or snow.  Glad you have a way to keep warm and also cook.  I assume your electricity is out.

Oh your ice pictures are just spectacular!!!  Too bad the ice storms cause so much electrical  and tree damage.  So happy you have a wood stove and propane heater for a back up. Hope your power is close by to turning back on. .. We are now  getting  ready for Snow Storm Dawn which is forecasted to dump another 10 inches in our area.  Had Rocky out in the open field today for about 30 minutes watching him plow thur the snow at -4 degree wind chill. He did just fine as he drives me nuts if he doesnot get his outdoor zoomy zoomy  runs.    How are your GSPs dealing with the ice???  Will be glad when it comes to an end of ice stuff and is just snow for you and your GSPs

We got another 10cm or so today ... hubby is just running Bo up to the forest to give him a good fresh snow run. Looking forward to a tired doggy tonight :) We're supposed to get even more Friday into the weekend.

Like the icestorm pictures -- I remember when we had the big one up this way in 1998 (?) it's really beautiful, but boy the damage ice can wreck. We lost a couple big old elms on our street. And our steel hydro tower was snapped over like a twig. Keep warm!

We are supposed to get about a foot on Friday as well, plus another storm coming in on Sunday. My power lines are snapped at the pole on the street, at the pole halfway up the driveway & then were also ripped partially out of the house, so even when they get power back on my road (hopefully in the next few days), it will still be a long time before I have electricity. :(

Environment Canada has nicknamed the storms coming this weekend as "Snow-mageddon".

I think they're getting a bit dramatic, but they're saying we could get over 40 cm (16 in) between Friday morning and Sunday. Yikes!

Heck, we might have gotten 16 inches in upper Kittitas county from the last 24 hour shot... just takes a whole lotta digging afterwards, and a white-knuckled drive home for me since I use back roads the plows don't get to when they're busy on the freeway.

I think the worst I've seen is maybe 2-2.5 feet of snow in one go. Not only are you plowing and digging every time you turn around, but the cities really have to start getting it scooped up and hauled out if they're not going to be in trouble. And it's REALLY fun when it turns to rain at the end....

We haven't gotten a ton of snow as of yet here in northwestern Wisconsin, but it has been beastly COLD.  I think if the temp would hit +30 again I would break out the shorts and sandals!

Bev -

I would love to get the boys together whenever you are down next. Tug is 55lbs. too. I just looked up how to measure height at the withers so I will give that a try when I get home.

Well, we're sure getting OUR version of 'snowmaggedon'.... 25" recorded at Snoqualmie pass as of yesterday evening out of one solid shot, probably 16"+ in Roslyn/ Cle Elum, and more on the way as of Saturday night. Tonight it's sub-zero (F). Fortunately it's supposed to warm back up into the 20s next week, but there's snow showing in the forecast for upper county every single day into the future beyond tomorrow.

I tried skijoring with the hounds today, but the groomer hadn't been out yet. We only had a couple snowmos tracks to follow and even then the hounds were post-holing down 1-4". They were glad to get back out on the road. :( I heard a rumor that the groomers won't touch it until either the snowmos pack it more or we get more snow... it's so dry they're worried about just blowing it off the road instead of packing it down into a trail.
