I think their nose leads them into trouble. Plastic rug runners work well (turned pointy side up) on counters and sofas. The problem is the GSPs are smart enough to keep checking to see if they are still there. Our second pointer Sam managed to sneak over the gate and upstairs where she found all the Easter candy. She ate 2 chocolate rabbits, numerous marshmallow chicks and foli wrapped eggs (foil and all). Fortunately she then barfed it all up in the living room. If she hadn't, it would have killed her.

This topic sure has made me laugh! GSP's are too funny. Chase only steals food from my daughter every chance he gets. We had a Dalmation that ate a whole cake, a case of danishes, a 12 pack of peanut butter cups, 6 dozen chistmas cookies, and a pack of thawing steaks all in one week. Funny thing was he never once had that look of guilt in his face and still greeted us at the door tail wagging, happy as can be.

It's at the point where we buy Bo his own carrots, apples and yogurt. Still wants ours too, though.

I know that look.  This is Molly after snatching my defrosting toaster waffle.  At one point she managed to  get her lips around the whole thing.

put this on the other thread and realized i wanted it here.

Lacey got caught trying to get some takeout out of the trashcan. I heard her when she started running into things in the kitchen.

I did use the mouse traps when Ruger was younger & was stealing butter all the time. It really worked well & it never hurt him, just startled the s**t out of him. I think its time for a refresher course, hahaha

Both Petsafe and Innotek make indoor containment systems with variable-radius transmitters and variable-stimulation shock collars. I place the transmitters on the countertops. Stopped my hardcore countersurfer after about 18 months (she was REALLY determined and hardheaded) - I didn't have to use them anymore. Runs about $100 but well worth it! Less $ than a vet bill from all the goodies.

BTW my 75 lb countersurfer could jump on the countertops like a kangaroo (jump from a standstill and land rear legs first) and reach the food stored above the wall cabinets! Talk about creative!!

I should have taken a picture of Bogart as he was cleaning out his yogurt container last night. It was one of the big ones (long enough to get his snout stuck. When I pulled it off his head, his face was white instead of brown. But he was a very happy pup!

GSP's are great canine dishwasher precleaners after loading fresh dinner plates before closing the door. ... GSP's are also great canine prewash pan lickers before you place the pan in the dishwasher!!!!

I call it the pre-rinse cycle. :P Although, now that I have two GSPs and only one plate (I live alone) there is a problem! :D

OK so I'm going to share one of Seven's "tricks."  I unfortunatley do not have a picture, but I'm sure you can all use your imaginations.  Seven age 6 months was in the process of being crate trained, but he was having some issues in his crate after we moved, so we dicided to give him a little more space and put him in the spare bedroom.  He had run of the room and his crate was in there and lots of toys too.  Everything was fine when I left for work, no barking or whining as I left.  So I got in my truck and headed to work.  When I arrived home all was still quiet, no barking coming from the house.  I assumed everything was still great inside...boy was I mistaken.  When I opened the door to the spare room it looked like it had snowed about 2 ft...we had had guests the previos weekend and put a feather topper on the futon to make it more comfy...completly forgetting this fact until Seven dug through a comforter, 2 sheets and the feather matress topper, and even put a hole in the futon mattress.   I couldn't even yell at him, it's  after all instinct...plus he looked sooooo cute laying on the mattress covered feathers completly satisfied with his work for the day!?!?!?!  So close your eyes and try to picture it .  I called my husband at work and told him that I wasn't going to clean up after Seven today, because I wanted him to see what he had done!!?!?  Boy was he surpised when he got home...after this incident Seven learned to love his crate and is crated whenever we leave the house.
