HELP!!!!!

Ok folks.. we have cold weather coming and I am/have a cold wimp.  RIght now I am having a HUGE issue in finding Wachter a coat!  I have checked all of my local pet supply stores, as well as the farm supply.. Even Target, the "marts" and Wally world... it seems the only thing anyone wants to sell is the cute little dog stuff... NOT A THING for my big boy!

Mind you I am on a tight budget, so I need to find something reasonable (no folks I am NOT spending upwards of $40 or more on a coat for a dog.... no matter how much I love that silly ball of fur!

Check ebay - I've seen lots there. Otherwise Cabela's, Sportsmen's Warehouse, and the like are where I would look.

What about this kind? All my dogs have the horse blanket type coats and they have kept them very warm.

Here is what we just got Tundra. Worth every penny and fits her like a GLOVE! It has taken us a year to find a coat that fits her!

These are a little more expensive, but we know many dogs in the neighbourhood who wear chilly dogs. http://www.chillydogs.ca/

We're actually going to pick one up for Bo since I think he's outgrown the one he had last year.

I have made coats for my dogs out of polar fleece but also like the horse blanket type for really cold wetaher. Here's a link to the brand I have http://www.weatherbeeta.com/USA/range/Dog/index.asp I picked a couple up last spring at the local tack shop for $14.95 each.

Couldn't a store order a larger size for you?
Just about all the coats come in large sizes.
When I had my pet store I ordered coats for Grey Hounds.

Wow -- those are great prices, and nice looking coats. Which tack shop did you get them at?

my wife picked up a couple of coats for Michigan at Old Navy of all places. I think they were $15 a piece (and that's Canadian prices) and they even have a little hood. Michigan has one in pink and one in orange and she absolutely loves them.

I'll post some pictures later.

Joce,

I got them at Apple Saddlery at Innes Rd and the 417. Do you know what size Bo needs? I bought 2 - 24" blankets since the price was so cheap but Terra would be better in a smaller size. I think I got the winter clear out price. The measurement is from the base of his neck to where his tail starts.

The thing we don't like about the horse type blankets is if your dog gets wet under them it doesn't dry them at all!

The ones with fleece on the inside will soak up the water and have them dry in no time! But we need that as we do dock jumping indoors during the winter and they still go outside inbetween jumps for potty breaks!

I like the fleece Arrowhead jacket much like the one I linked to. Dulcie's had one for at least 8 years. When it gets funky it just goes in the wash without any special treatment.

Of course I also wanted something that works well over a harness for those very rare occasions she might need something while we were out running.

Gail -- I'll check and get back to you ... perhaps we could do a jacket swap since Bo has a really nice jacket, I just think it's too short on his body.

Moose,

My Weatherbeeta dog blankets are lined with fleece. I use them to break the wind outside when it's -40 or for the dog to wear while it's waiting it's turn at agility class in an unheated horse arena in cold temps. They go on and off quickly so good for agility class. I have a variety of fleece and towelling coats for all weather and temps.

Joce,

I'm up for a swap! Let me know if you think what I have will fit. We'll be in Carp at the Training hall this Saturday night for flyball practice if you want to meet.

Bravepoint-
Oh that is great! I had ones that didn't have the fleece and it drove me crazy that the dogs were warm 2 hours after jumping but they were not dry!

Now we have thinner coats that are fleece lined and they are dry in 15 minutes after jumping and are also warm. Plus they break the wind and are water proof.

I have a dog coat fetish just like a shoe fetish that some people have LOL!
