Glad you are still going with a GSP.

So we do have similar pedigree. I don't think I would have switched unless someone said they don't hunt, they eat children and make messes in the house! So the dog may have a little more ability than what a rookie needs. Well I like a challenge and I think I found a great website that can help Us along the way. Along with joining a local club that seems to have good people involved.
Bruce you and Pixie talking in circles like this, is that a product of the dogs running you in circles or what?

List _ house,
I'm glad that you decided to go ahead and get the puppy. You're prepared now for what you might be in for and maybe he'll be quieter. I recommend finding a good obedience training school as well as a hunting group. Obedience is the key to success in the field (and everywhere else).
Post pics when you get him!

Nate,
it is not true. A dog can never have more ability then a rookie needs. No such thing.
The more ability the less you have to "train". It's a blessing. The thing to look for is cooperation. When a breeder breeds cooperation that breeder has done thier job well.
A dog with ability only needs exposure. They learn something the first time and build on it.
YOU ARE GONNA HAVE FUN WiTH THIS DOG!!!
I can't wait to hear the stories. And see the pictures.
I talk in circles? You should meet me. I'm even better in person.

This is Molly's pedigree:

She is definitely go go go when out where she can range but is a great family dog and great with kids. As you can see from the avatar she is pretty calm in the house. The man who bred her does not do trials but he is a gung ho hunter and that is what he breeds for.

Re ability, it is already clear that Tessa has more than I...I provide the exposure, and in return, she teaches me. Like where birds are and when, and how quartering works (never had a dog that did that).
Yes, you will enjoy.

Circles? Am I chasing my tail again?
No such thing as too much ability and personally, the harder they go, the more I like them! Challenging yes, but I get the impression that like me, you thrive on challenge and will have a blast with this pup. Knowing where you can find the answers when you don't have them will be the greatest asset you can have in bringing the pup along!
Money will buy a fine dog, but only kindness will make him wag his tail.
