In this pic you can see his belly fatty tumor and he has an outie belly button. Same winter day when Rocky weighed in at 92 lbs. the most Rocky ever tipped the scale was 93.2lbs. Will be looking forward to posting trimmer pics of Rocky.

Compare this picture with Rocky's picture on page 2 of this thread and see how ihe has trimmed down. Measured his chest at deepest part 2 weeks ago and it was 35 inches in diameter. Today I measured his chest in the same spot and it was 34.5 inches. So we are going in the right direction!!

Marie -- you may want to get a food dehydrater so you could make some jerky out of some of the venison ... I don't know if this would be easier/cheaper than just buying special dog treats at the store, but it may be worth looking into ...

Everbell Hoooo Ray I have 2 dehydraters!! Is there a special venison recipe I should be using for low fat treats? I heard people mixing soy sauce in doggy treats Would be nice I could make him some for Xmas, place 1 treat in each package for him to open. He loves opening packages, ripping tags off of stuff so it would be fun for him. His birthday is December 28th and I ordered him a water fowl dummy birdie which he will not get until summer when we are at a lake

Marie - When I make my dehydrate my dogs treats I do not add anything - they eat it so fast I don't think they would notice any special spices. I was considered that extra stuff would be bad for them. I freeze the meat first and when it is still slightly froze I am able to slice it very thin. When I take out the dehydrator my dogs go wacko because they know I am making them treats :)

I would go far, far away from soy sauce. Waaaaaaaay too much sodium and stuff for us, much less the critters. Marie, I'm so glad you are getting some of the weight off Rocky. This can only be a good thing for his general health as well as for the pancreatitis.
You might want to look for fat-free peanut butter for the meds. I find that a fingerful of peanut butter with meds pushed into it is lapped up like candy, and good for 'em too. Some of the stuff that is good for their recovery (ie, medications) is too bitter for happy munching.

Best of luck and keep us informed on his progress.

Rocky, Glad to hear and see that you are feeling better!  You still look very handsome!   I can say that as Benelli is not within earshot   She is at doggy training camp and mom is very sad and misses her very much

Oh flygirl, will be sooo happy for you when you get your baby GSP Benelli back home from her training.

Well tomorrow I will call the Vet to give update and ask if I can advance his diet slowly to his real new Senior low Fat doggy dry food.

Also I will ask for a sub idea for old habits of chewing on raw hide chews. I don't think rawhide chews are good for pancreatitis Every night he loves laying on his rug on our living room chewing on his raw hide chew. Have not yet met a dog who loves chewing on those nylo bones!!! Tonight Rocky wanted to chew so I gave him some of his hard rubber toys you stuff food in with out the food. I know rawhide bones to chew are not going to be good.

Try bull pizzles Marie -- they are 100% digestible and given where they come from on the bull (stretched and dried bull penises), I doubt there is much fat on them. You might even be able to make some yourself if your husband gets a buck (although I wouldn't want to do it :P)

Well the good news is that our nephew Devan, yesterday shot a 9 point buck.  Any way, Did start Rocky on his first 1/2 cup of his new Senior diet. He was turning circles. We have our first 1 inch of snow laying on the ground so going to have to put on my ROCKY snow boot today to take him out in the field. Then on to some light snow shoveling for me  Will be going off the purchase him a few nylo bones. Sad news about Rocky, he gets diarrea if chewing on any bone processed by a butcher So  I cannot even get him one of those beef knuckle bones for dogs in the meat section in our supermarket

Is it because the knuckle bones are beef bones? I know one of my dogs would get the runs until I would only let her chew on it for an hour and then I would freeze it and give it to her the next day for an hour. Also I aasume you skin your deers can you use a deer bone for Rocky - I have know idea how soft a deer bone is? Glad Rocky is doing better :)

If your nephew wants to give up the antlers they are really hard and my be a good option for chewing.  Or, maybe there is somewhere you can buy antlers for this purpose.

Rocky, you look great!!!

I'm not sure what the fat content is, but I give my pups pork neck bones as a special treat. Our WalMart Supercenter sells them, so I don't even have to go to a butcher.

Also, you can always freeze some fat free yogurt (or other yummy fat free treat) inside a Kong & let him work on that.

I tired the deer antlers, but my dogs weren't too interested, but boy did they go crazy over the small moose antler I found.

Poor Rocky is allergic to pork in any version. I tried real beef bones with boiling the marrow out. freezing them ect and all had the same diahrrea effect on Rocky. That is why we went to rawhide chews which he did fine on for the last four years. My Nephew is keeping the horns for mounting!! Devan is soooo proud!!! My vet said ok for new Senior dry dog food, which Rocky loved. She said yes only to Nylabones!! So I went on line to Drs Foster and Smith and ordered a different array of shapes and tastes of the nylabones to keep Rocky interested and happy. Will wrap some for Rocky to open under the Xmas tree!! Thank you for all your tips, compliments on Rocky's weight loss and well wishes.
