Rocky is sick He started throwing up in the middle of the night. Also he continued this morning. Rocky must have eaten somthing bad in garbage or out in the field. He does have a sensitive digestive system. Rocky drank a little water latter this morning and so far hs kept it down. So plan is will just let him drink water no food for 24 hours. Advance his diet slowly. Chicken rice soup tomorrow or tonight if he shows signs of hunger. Worst case, if not better by tomorrow, it will be off to the Vet. Good news, his pooh is not diarrhea and he has no pain whe i palpate his belly. Also has good bowel sounds upon auscultation Can't you tell I am a nurse???

Sounds like a good plan. I am usually quicker to take a pup to the vet, the younger, the faster, but if he is older, what you say is what I would do.

Rocky, I hope you feel better soon. Did you get into something you shouldn't have, you nosy guy? Hopefully the vet will have a positive answer for you and some treatment to get you back to your old self. Marie, thinking of you too, as it's a worry with our loved ones who can't tell us what's wrong.

Rocky update: he was diagnosed with Pancreatitis after blood work done at the Vet. RX is no food just water for 48 hours then followed by a bland diet. Since Monday Rocky has only taken in laps of water. Refused prescribed Rebound by the Vet and turns his nose up at chicken broth. so just has been on water. He has had sparks of energy when he went and dropped his tennis ball at my feet while sorting laundry. I did take him on a mini field walk to air him out today and took some pics so you can see  a GSP who has not had food for 3 days, just water and still is surviving, want to point ,but not fully back to par.  Rocky weighed in at 90.1 lb at his healthy Vet visit last week and at the sick Vet visit he was down to 85 lbs. By the end of this Rocky will be in the 70's by the time treatment ends. Pancreatis is a disease that is triggered by over weight dogs being fed table scraps. Rocky is an example. Rocky did eat a dead  part of a dead animal on the deer land to trigger this, but bottom line is that Rocky being a Big boy futher put him at risk for pancreatitis. This is a lesson hard learned and am glad to share with others to prevent your GSP from ever having to go thur this.

We were fortunate to catch this early as if you wait too long with pancreatitis, Your dog ends up for 2 to 3 days hospitalized with IVs. The Vet did say if Rocky would not have improved, I was to bring him back to be hospitalized for 3 days of IVs. Rocky did improve greatly so here comes some pics of Rocky today at 84 lbs, not 90lbs

Oh Marie and Rocky I am so sorry for you - we went thru the same thing with our Bluetick in April - it is very scary (we almost lost her). Will Rocky not eat small amounts of boiled chicken and rice? Also we had to switch her to food where the fat content was under 10. Did they talk about using Pedalite (?) to help? I hope Rocky is feeling better.

marie & rocky I will keep you in my prayers. I'm glad Rocky is doing better. Is this something he will always have or is this something he can fully recover from?

Rocky will always have this disease and not be fed foods with fat as that will trigger symptoms. . Tomorrow I will start him on a bland diet of mix no fat cottage cheese, cream of wheat, brown rice, boiled eggs ect. tablespoon by tablespoon. For some reason he doesnot want chicken broth or the Rebound electrolyte drink. He just turns away from those, but will drink water only. So I am happy he is taking some fluids, not vomiting any more and has displayed more energy today. He will also start on amoxicillin tomorrow so that will help from secondary infections. He should fully recover and be back to normal, but will not be able to feed him small bowls of ice cream as a special treat any more. No Dairy Queen for Rocky doggy cups during the summer No more Wisconsin Cheese  I will have to ask my son Mike if he knows of any ice cream no fat low cal doggy treats for summer??? Thank you for all your well wishes as we really appreciate them

Forgot to say, my Vet did say, it is not uncommon for her to have hunting dogs who come to her who are sick llike Rocky who ate some dead stinky part of an animal in the field while hunting. These dogs get infections that can cause havoc with liver and the pancreas if not treated. So I guess we all have to be careful when our dogs are out in the woods and fields. I don't know if being thinner would have helped Rocky from pancreas disease in this case? But I do know that being over weight predisposes our dogs to some of these diseases ie diabetes, heart disease and others. I feel truely greatful, I have had dogs out in the fields ,woods, lakes, mountains all my life and this is the first time of a dog getting sick while eating a dead stinky!!
