Since I really haven't been on here very much for the last few months I thought it was time I post something. I am going to brag. Once again my Blaze has managed to amaze me with her talents. I decided after watching a Rally competition that it looked like fun & I wanted to try it with Blaze. We had no training at all for any kind of obedience or Rally & went in the ring anyway. She competed & titled in Rally novice & now has her 2nd leg out of 3 towards her Advanced title. Below are a few pictures from 1 of her competitions.

that's very cool Rebecca! Blaze is a very pretty girl! Is rally part of agility with the jumps and stuff?

Ace -

Rally is a cross between obedience and agility, but actually more obedience.  They setup a course with different obedience exercises.  Dog and handler have to do the exercise at each station as they progress through the course.  They are also timed.  They are scored on each exercise and times.  So best score and time is first.  This was added as a performance event to get more folks involved. It is not as formal as obedience and handlers are allowed to talk to their dogs and encourage them.  It is much more relaxed than obedience.

so would that be the one I saw with all the stunts and the dog came to the end of the ramp and stopped until the person told it to go and then went through a bunch more obstacles? The lady was talking to him the whole way? It looked really fun and the shorthair definetly enjoyed it. I watched a few events on you tube.

Here is the description from AKC on Rally and a link to a YouTube video that shows a Rally Novice B run.

www.youtube.com/watch

What is Rally?

AKC Rally is the new dog sport that is taking the nation by storm, a successful stepping stone from the AKC Canine Good Citizen® program to the world of obedience or agility. Rally offers both the dogs and handlers an experience that is fun and energizing. The canine team moves at their own pace, very similar to rally-style auto racing. Rally was designed with the traditional pet owner in mind, but it can still be very challenging for those who enjoy higher levels of competition.

A rally course includes 10 to 20 stations, depending on the level. Scoring is not as rigorous as traditional obedience. Communication between handler and dog is encouraged and perfect heel position is not required, but there should be a sense of teamwork between the dog and handler. The main objective of rally is to produce dogs that have been trained to behave in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs, in a manner that will reflect positively on the sport of rally at all times and under all conditions.

wtg, Rebecca! Awesome, specially with no training ! Good for you and Blaze for trying new things ! I'm debating trying tracking in December with my Ziggy...kind of scary, but he will need a job sometime eventually, as I don't want him being a couch potato. :) Be sure and keep us informed how that December RA trial goes.

Best,
