I bet Lisa could fix them up with a WGSPR cutie! Who's good at Photoshop? Somer? Mit? It would be so hilarious to see Daniel's ripped up couch against an Oval Office background. (At least I think it was Daniel with that classic photo? Apologies if I'm mixed up!) |

At one point the AKC web site mentioned that the family needed a dog that was OK for a person with allergies. There was a vote on various breeds and the Pooodle won. So, I don't think any GSP would work. And besides, we really do not want the breed to become any more popular! Do we? Kudos if they adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue group. Eleanor in NJ |

| If they got a Standard Poodle, that would be cool. I know several of those & they are great dogs. No resemblance at all to the vicious, yappy mini version someone gave us when I was little. |

Speaking of vicious, yappy little things, did anyone else see the new clip of Bush's dog biting a reporter last night?! Unacceptable behavior in a dog, but honestly, the reporter deserved it. |

For some reason I don't think the Obama's will be getting a hunting breed.
They will get a cute little doggie and be the typical American family. Or does he own to many cars now?
And has he produced an American birth certificate yet???? |

Please don't lock it just keep politics out...
It looks like they may get a poodle of labradoodle because of the allergy issue. Not on my list of favorite breeds but I did know a standard poodle once and he was a ton of fun, very smart and tough. Would go swimming in freezing weather and come out of the lake with chiming icicles in his coat. A friend of mine also has a Labradoodle and as much as I hate to admit it, that dog is awesome and the coat - just amazing.

| I just looked at the photo again...I just now recognize my favorite couch in the world...LOL. Very funny. I love the straightfaced look on his face...like this is the most normal thing...well I guess it is if you own GSPs. |

| Love that couch picture. Obama mentioned that they would like to do a rescue but need a non-allergenic dog---would like to tell him about breed rescues. I have had three friends with standard poodles---all very nice dogs. The friend who took care of Sam for me when I was on vacation had one and she and Sam got along great. |

When President-elect Barack Obama warned it would take time to fulfill his many campaign promises, few imagined that his daughters' puppy would be among those immediately placed on the backburner.
Despite widespread interest in the future First Pup, the Obamas will wait until spring to adopt a pet, according to his transition staff.
Aides are quick to point out that Obama is not reneging on a promise. When he and his wife Michelle first agreed to let Malia and Sasha have a dog, it was always on the condition that the adoption take place in the spring so they wouldn't be housebreaking the puppy in the winter.
Malia, 10, reportedly wants a "goldendoodle," a golden retriever-poodle hybrid that isn't recognized as an official breed by the American Kennel Club. Michelle Obama favors a rescue dog but has said any adopted pet must have a hypoallergenic coat because of Malia's allergies.
No decision has been made on the kind of puppy, but America has already given the family plenty of advice. Obama's transition office has been deluged with e-mails and phone calls from people offering their input on the dog's breed and whether it should come from a pound.
Even the Tribune's editorial board weighed in on the matter, urging the public to quit barking out orders.
"We got to pick the president," the editorial said. "Let Sasha and Malia pick the puppy."

Somewhere else they also said that they want to settle in first before adding the dog...makes sense to me. I do wish them luck on the housebreaking, winter or spring...that is a big house = long way to the outside. |
