Finally want to share after much work of trail and error, I finally have an avatar of Rocky infront of our North Carolina cherry bush.  Rocky has a solid liver face with a hint of white triangle above his nose.  I think he looks similar to alot of other  GSP's that I have seen on this site.

I stay all over the US & Canada because of doing several dog shows per year. The hotels that are dog friendly are Red Roof, Motel 6, Knights Inn, some Super 8, some Quality Inn, a lot of little mom & pop places are dog friendly, some Holiday Express, & some Comfort Inn. I hope this helps. The most common ones are the Red Roof, Motel 6 & Knights Inn though.

We stayed at a great hotel in Burlington -- the Hawthorn Suites. Not only did they make a fuss over Bo when we arrived, they were happy to have him play in the courtyard and sit in the foyer by the fireplace with us. They even had a hotel cat greeting guests ... and the price was super reasonable. (By super reasonable, I think it was $130 Cdn for a 1 bedroom suite -- everyone else was well over $200 )  I'm not sure if this is a chain in the US, but it was a great hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting that area.

Rocky, when we went up north in February Telemark resort had certain rooms earmarked as "Pet-friendly" and they charged a one-time extra $35 fee. We were afraid the room would smell like a kennel but it was fine. We ran the room fan and left the TV on with Ranger in the crate while we were gone. Neighbors down the hall had a yippy little dog that barked whenever we walked by their room but we never heard it from within our room. Maybe the soundproofing was better from side to side.

There's been some wonderful help on this thread for all of us. I will make a note of which hotel chains are good. I would also imagine lots of "mom and pop" motels would either be very accomodating (or not at all!).

P.S. I will add that Ranger barked in the middle of the night as people arrived back to their rooms after a long evening of, shall we say, socializing with adult beverages. You might want to ask for a room as far away from the wedding parties or class reunions as possible.

You've probably gotten plenty of advice on this one, but we're from Maine & I can just tell you that there are some really dog-friendly cities here. I'm not sure where you're headed, but Portland is a total dog town, and Freeport, where we are, is too--- places from the fancy Harraseekeet Inn to the local EconoLodge all take dogs here.

Sheraton Hotels and Westin hotels also are dog friendly, with no extra cost and they have dog beds and bowls on request.

We did reschedule our road trip from WI to Maine in July as it just didn't work out with our tough winter and thought summer might be a better time to travel. Because of the heat in that time of year. Rocky is not going and will be staying with his Aunti Gayle and Dreamer and Monty. We will miss Rocky, but know he will do well.. Rocky has a basket of tennis balls and a swimming pool in Gayles back fenced yard the same as ours. We never have to board our dogs in a kennel  as we both take turns caring for each other dogs when either of us go away!!! Really looking forward to the travel and will take in some tours and towns along the way!! Should be alot of fun!!

Marie, sounds like everyone will be having a good time on their vacations. Tell Aunti Gayle to take lots of pictures of Rocky on his vacation with his cousins so you can post them along with your vacation pictures when you get back. Barb
