This Morning my son and I were sitting on the couch talking about hunting and I siad something about finding the bird. Next thing we know Chase jumps up and runs around the living room, picks something up, brings it over and drops it at my feet wagging his tail like he did something great. It was my daughter beenie baby cat! Chase has had very little training with any hunting and we were so shocked all we could do is laugh. If thats not potential for fetching then I dont know what is! I just had to share one of the funny things our crazy GSP's do.
Cute GSP Family story. Sounds like Chase was demonstrating what he is bred to do. Retrieve and drop the prey at your feet. We are having fun with Rocky tossing tennis balls in tall grass along road side and have him pounce in on high prey drive and come out with the ball. It is all fun play practice for the real thing. One day I was just going for a walk with Rocky tossing the ball in the tall grass like I always do and Rocky pounced in and flushed up a real pheasant and startled the pants off me when the bird flew out and up. GSP's are alot of fun and never a dull moment!!!
that sounds like a great start for a Smart GSP. Mine on the other hand thinks she is a Bunny retriever ! Couple weeks back my hubby went out for a soak in the hot tub, about 10 pm..he took Bean with. Next thng I know I hear them come back in the house, Bean jumped on the bed, ( only TV lighted the room )..she sat kinda funny, like a statue, and I could barely make out the trophy in her mouth...I just knew I DIDN'T want whatever it was in MY BED.... YEP A BUNNY... Poor thing had expired...but Bean was proud as could be. One thing I can't quite figure is Bean can be at her window watching a squirrel at the bird feeder, she'll just stare & tremble BUT should a bunny appear in the yard, Bean will go ape and at times I was afraid she'd go thru the window, B4 I could let her out.
