We've all seen the pictures of the sofas after a GSP got ahold of them.  I also have a chair that got similar treatment, along with a mulititude of stuffed toys.  I now keep a bunch of stuffed toys the kids can unstuff.  I often find a room that looks like it has snowed.  I just pick up the stuffing and restuff.  So far, it has saved the furniture.

My question though, is why do shorthairs like to unstuff whatever?

I thought it was a puppy thing that CC would grow out of, but she is no better at eleven months about it than she was at nine weeks.  Bedding in her crate consists of an old blanket, anything you put in with her with stuffing on the inside will have all of the stuffing on the outside in a night or two, any stuffed animal she plays with becomes an unstuffed animal, she even chews the covers off of tennis balls.

Oh well, the benefits outway the costs, I wouldn't trade her for anything much less anything else canine.

The only time any of my three destroyed stuffed things was when Sam went to the kennel. She always destroyed her beds there. Molly destroyed electronic gadgets (TV remotes and cell phones) when she was a pup but is very trustworthy now. KNOCK ON WOOD.

Don't know why ... but we do not have stuffed stuff for the dog: no stuffed toys, no stuffed dog beds, nothing. He takes it as his mission to destroy anything soft we get him (including blankets). Even his blanket has to be put away except at bed time ... sigh!

I have two dogs at my house. A 3 year old Springer (Burton) and an 8 month old GSP (Oden). Burton can play with plush/soft toys for weeks w/o doing any real damage (Other than dirty dog slob). Give Oden 2 minutes w/ that toy and you'll be finding poor little stuffed animal innards for days.

Mine love to "disembowel" anything with stuffing. They are also kleptomaniacs & take whatever they can get their mouths on out the dog door and into the yard... where they see something more interesting & drop whatever they stole, to be found again only when the snow melts in winter or I mow the lawn in summer. :D

I can't imagine having that much snow.  Maybe once a year it'll snow enough here to actually stick to the ground for a couple of hours.  I do still find "artifacts" in my yard when I mow b/c my grass grows like crazy.  Good thing my dogs think they are cows and do their part to keep it in check.

We get enough snow here in the winter that I have to shovel paths for the dogs to go do their business. Once it gets to a certain depth it becomes too much effort for them to hop through it like enormous bunnies.

Yeah, CC does this with the grandkids toys and anything else she can find. She knows what she is doing because whe is "stealthy" about it and runs through the door. We have started to go check on her if she goes flying out of the dog door after coming from another room. Nine times out of ten she has "stolen" something.

socks, that's what I find in the yard all the time. Webster will steal the clean socks that are folded into each other & run outside to the yard with his 'bootie'.

A funny story: the other day Webster grabbed a pair of my socks from my laundry basket before I could put them away, well, along with the socks he grabbed one of my bras.. I was upstairs & happened to look out the window & there was Webster prancing around the yard with a pair of socks & a bra dangling down from his mouth.

LOL Mit, ALL my dogs go for socks, bras, but only if they can't get to the used underwear first.

My girls have outgrown the stealing mom's stuff routine, but Ringo will steal socks, underwear, bras, PJs, but his favorite is mom's house slippers.  He will prance around like he just won the lottery with my slippers.  The girls preferred underwear and PJs.

Rocky's first 2 years with us, if given a chance would rip bed sheets off the line   and tear them into shreads Needless to say I used the dryer mostly Rocky's first 2 years. When folding a pile of towels or underwear in the house, Rocky would sneak over to the pile of folded wash cloths and carry the whole pile in his mouth and walk off  only to scatter them all over  the floor in another room To solve this problem, I moved my laundry folding table in the basement so I could toss balls to Rocky and fold laundry at the same time... Well at 6 years old Rocky doesnt do that naughty stuff any more. I can hang wash outside once again and fold laundry upstairs while Rocky lays on his rug chewing a bone

That was too funny about Webster taking a bra and running around the yard with it!!

Osiris is a shredder. He de-stuffs all toys and loves to carry around the empty shell. He has a about 5 unstuffed toys in his crate.
