Yesterday I posted a link to what I thought was a very good video from one of our troops which truly showed what the attitude is of our troops.

An attitude that the main stream media does not want us to see.

It is disappointing that so many people are not allowed the opportunity to here the truth from our troops that have shown so much valor and conviction.

I have 2 cousins that recently returned from Iraq as well as one of their own sons who came back full of shrapnel. All 3 of them were very proud to have served. It is this pride in their country that allows us the freedom of speech that we should cherish.

Apparently that freedom of speech is not allowed on this site, as my post was removed.

My post was prefaced with Off Topic. Maybe if people are that easily offended, they should not read an off topic post.

Hogan,

I watched the video and it was HIGHLY political, which is something we do not want here. That is why it was removed NOT because we do not support the troops. This discussion is intended for GSP lovers to discuss their fuzzy babies not for you to get on your high horse and start preaching to us about which politician is the best. Then hide that discussion behind a bunch of war retoric, then declare us un American because we are not interested in having that discussion here.

The moderators were right in removing your post, I for one was very disappointed in you for posting it in the first place, ESPECIALLY after our views on political discussions were made very clear in the other posting. This is not a matter of freedom of speech, it is a matter of keeping these boards on topic, if you want freedom of the press then take it to your local newspaper not onto a online forum specifically designed for other purposes.

You are not the only one that has loved ones in the combat theaters, at least you were lucky that you got your family back alive, some of us have not been so fortunate.

Signed

And thank goodness he does! I can't imagine where my little ball of fluff -- okay big ball of hair -- would be without this. The people on this board are such a great source of info and support. And Rick does this without charge ...

"Thank you very much Marie.

To the others that I may offended, I appologize, because that certainly was not my intention.

There are people on this site that know me personally and I think that they can vouch for me that I try and treat people with the utmost respect.

If people are so easily upset, and cannot carry on an educated discussion, maybe this is not the site for me.

For the friends that I have made here, my home email is still the same.

Stay in touch

Hogan, PLEASE DON'T LEAVE! I have always enjoyed your jokes, wisdom & pictures of WI & your dogs. I have been down with a back problem so I can't sit at the comp. much. I didn't see the video but would love to see it if you could send it to my e-mail.

I have a nephew over there right now that had to leave when his premature baby,[ 28 weeks, 2 lbs] was 3 days old. Both my older sons were in the military to & my Dad & an aunt in world war 2. I was born at Camp Pendleton, CA. People just have very strong political views & it seems especially the younger ones. I think I speak for almost everyone on here that we would really miss you & your GSPs

Hogan -

I for one am hoping you are not leaving the board.  I guess I am not as sensitive on political issues as allot of folks.  I personally kind of enjoy a lively political discussion.  After all, isn't that what our fore fathers wanted  when they created this great country.  I missed the video link, but would love to see it.  My family has served in the military in one way or another since the American Revolution.  Heck I even had ancestors on both sides during the Civil War, and that really did split this great country.  As someone who has studied politics and history, what we see today is nothing compared to some of the mud slinging that has happened in our past.  The only difference is we have the 24 hour news cycle now.

I do wish people would get back to the nice lively discussions and not wear political correctness and sensitivity on their sleeves.  It really does benefit us all to hear all sides.  Of course, most folks just get emotional and don't really do the research on issues and facts (including our illustrious media), so debate is becoming a lost art form.

Anyway, if you get a chance and are so inclined PM me with the video.  I am always interested.

I don't think anyone was debating whether or not the troops were supported (even if you don't necessarily support the War) ... I think the point was that Rick is trying to avoid any nasty business by not letting a political discussion run rampant on a site intended to be devoted to dogs. (Do any of the older members recall a certain someone from Florida who took over the site for awhile with his agenda?)

Anyhow, Hogan, I don't think you should leave. If you do, that would be a real shame. Your contributions have been invaluable, and honestly, I don't think anyone who posted previously was criticizing you personally.

Since I didn't see the video, or the post, in question I can't comment on its appropriateness or not.

Let me get this straight....
Because your topic which may have been offensive to others on the board was deleted/removed; you are offended and leaving the board?
Glad that everyone that saw the video that may have been offended didn't take that approach and hope that you would reconsider.

Simply put, this IS NOT a Political Discussion Forum, but rather a Forum for discussion of German Shorthair Pointers and all things connected. A discussion of Politics that affect dog owners would seem appropriate; but a discussion/video where anyone who does not support the war, does not support the troops is I think highly inappropriate. I don't think there is anything wrong with Off Topic Post, but they should not be offensive to other Members or divisive of the boards Membership, which Politics always seem to be. Just my .02 FWIW

Hogan -

I also want to express my hope that you are not leaving the board for good!

I am also a PROUD supporter of our troops, our country and am a firm believer in the freedom of speech regardless of what is being said (whether it's something I agree with or not) because that's what makes America so GREAT!

I didn't get to see the link you posted either, but feel free to PM me with it as I'm sure it's interesting.  I've never been one to get sensitive about discussing politics...I think it's healthy for people to research candidates and their policies in an effort to have educated conversations about the fundamentals of our system. As long as no one gets personal and rude, it should be beneficial for everyone to hear different points of view!

My three GSP's even have red, white and blue bandanas on right now!  Ha

Hogan,

Tha people on this site are some of the most appreciative and most ardent supporters of the troops that I have found anywhere. (thanks everyone)  I for one want to discuss my dogs here and will discuss politics in an appropriate place.  As for throwing your family out there like no one cares wrong place to do it.  I myself have gone through similar things to them.  I have experienced the same kinds of loss and pain that I am sure they have felt.  I know what coming home wounded feels like, and none of that is something that the people here wish to talk about.  Stay and talk sbout your dogs all you want, but please let people have their refuge from the news, politics and for some of us everyday life.

Kyle

In the mentioned post I CLEARLY labeled in the subject line OFF TOPIC and somewhat political. Not only did the 2 offended individuals have to open the post, they also had to read opened subject which was Dear Mr. Obama. They then had to open a link to the video.

The offended individuals had 3 chances to NOT watch the video. They chose to watch the video and some how found it offensive and got their bloomers in a wad, just like they did with the locked post recently about "Who are you voting for?"

In that post I don't think that anybody stated who they were voting for but I posted with a comment about wanting to protect my hunting rights, (after all, I own four hunting dogs, GSP's to be exact, which is what I thought this site was about?  But these 2 individuals followed my post with comments about Saturday night specials and machine guns, and guns killing people. Guns killing people makes about as much sense as saying that it was box cutters that killed over 3000 people on 9/11.

The posting that I made was under the General Discussion Forum. Under this forum I have seen and participated in numerous discussions that were not at all GSP related. We have had discussion of Global Warming, Global cooling, Floods, our families, our interests, and all sorts of other topics that effect our everyday lives.

I'm sorry politics also effects our everyday lives.

For the people that I inadvertantly offended with the link, I do not apologize, you made the choice the view it.

I for one am tired of the politically correct BS, and the attitude if people have a difference of opinion, the solution is to shut them up.

For the people that have asked that I send them the link to the offensive video, it can be found on You Tube, look for Dear Mr Obama.

As I stated earlier in this thread, I will never intentionally offend people and the reason that I provided "THE Link" was certainly not intended to offend.

Maybe an Off Topic forum would be a possibility and password protected for more difficult access by the easily offended.
