| My first two dogs left the ponds alone but I used to come home to find Molly with her entire head under water dragging the water lily pots of the bottom of the pond. We fenced them for 4 years and though maybe we could finally take the fence down but the next day she was back in the pond spooking the fish. Can you keep fish in your ponds in Minnesota or do the fox and raccoons eat them. |

| I gave up on fish, they drive Ruger nuts!!! The little dock in the pic we built so Ruger could stand & stare in the pond & not smash my flowers, he still thinks there ARE fish in there. Its a pretty small pond, my hubby wasn't to happy that he had to dig it, he said " you have a creek running thru the yard, isn't that enough?" tehe Fox & Racoons don't dare come in our yard with the dogs around, hahaha , we have had some skunks, I had to shoot one that was in a trap last year & my husband was gone hunting for 2 weeks. A neighbor came over & helped me bury it so the dogs wouldn't go check it out! |

We got him July 21st. Those pics were taken August 15th. He was one big playful baby or as I called him the wild child. He loved everyone right away. Boston weren't thrilled at first. Now Bandit bosses him around, but Sadie still isn't impressed with him, but puts up with him. He is coming along, and seems happy. Oh I forgot yes he has white speckled front paws and speckled patch on his chest also. Here are a couple more pictures showing his chest and feet.

He is a great looking dog. My male was a ripping terror until about 2. That seems to be when they grow into a dog. He is still a bit crazy at times but he is an awesome dog. I have five GSP"S right now and they are all energetic forever it seems. If you love them they love you back tenfold! Good luck with him and great pics!!! |

Oh, Star is gorgeous, CJ! I LOVE those dark ticked/roan dogs.
My sister just sent me a photo CD from our August trip to the lake, so I thought I'd share a few.
This is Otto, waiting for me to toss his bumper for the zillionth retrieve of the day.

And that dark speck, the one you can't make out in the fading light? That's Otto, refusing to get out of the water ten hours later.

Man, I wish I lived on the lake. I've never seen a puppy so blissfully happy. And even better, I've never seen one sleep so well!

Otto is a good looking dog! Is he a solid? Looks like it in the picture. Mocha is about impossible to get out of the water too. You should see her when she finds a big rock, she won't stop tr4ying to figure it out. Also sometimes I think she sees her feet under the water and suspects it is some kind of prey! Kind of funny to watch. Hunter loves water too. Mostly all the places I used to take them are no dogs allowed! That is such a load of crap.
CJ do you have any other pics of Star? I think she is just like Mocha. I love the Liver roan patched & Ticked dogs! She is a beauty!!

I wish mr. otto lived closer. I would love to have him come play with our GSP's in the water. We are heading to a dock jumping competition this weekend that is actualy in a lake instead of a pool. This will really show the jumping and water love of our guys as they do better in natural body of water! I will get some pictures up when we get back...... Great looking dogs everyone! |

Yep, Otto is a solid. I had my fingers crossed for a heavily ticked puppy, but it was not to be. Solids do have their advantages though! He shed a TON this summer, but my clients were never able to tell if I wore dark clothing. With the ticked dogs, you're kind of up a creek either way...
Moose--How do you actually get a dog to jump? The photos I posted were from Otto's second foray into the water. I had hoped he'd start swimming when our friends arrived two hours later with their Lab. Well, Otto had it figured out 10 minutes after our arrival, and was an old pro by the time our friends made it up for the long weekend. When Remmy (the Lab) would wimp out on the long retrieves, Otto would chug right along. And if Otto could sense he wasn't going to get there first, he'd just swim in small circles waiting for the next toss. However, Otto never did jump off the dock. If both dogs were there, and we tossed the bumper, Remmy would fly off the dock and start swimming, while Otto would run down the dock and enter at the shoreline. I had hoped between the heated competition for the bumper and the fact he had a veteran "leaper" to follow, he'd pick that up. He's otherwise a pretty bold, confident puppy. ??? |

That is what I'm hoping for too. A dark liver patched ticked or roan patter when spring comes around. Our white dogs shed terribly. Is Otto kind of waterproof for a while when he gets wet? Mocha is like a greased pig. The water beads right off her like I waxed her. My white ones get wet instantly? Maybe something with the color?
Here's a picture of Belle just after I got her. The picture is horrible because it's off an old cell phone but you should be able to see what terrible shape she WAS in when we rescued her. She's so much healthier/ happier now.
I would like to know about getting the dog to jump too. There is a boat launch with a dock nearby and it's not posted for no dogs allowed. everywhere else is! |
