pixie, i understand where you are coming from...i went back and read 90% of that article and it got me thinking more about picking him up early...i think the breeder said that i could pick him up at 6 weeks because she is giving him to me free....i plan on paying her back for the shots, food, time, etc but i don't think she knows that....seeing that she would lose $$ every day he's still there, she probably wants to get him to me asap....i will told to her this week and make sure it's ok if he sticks aorund a few weeks longer |

Here is an 8 week stacked photo of our new pup Silver Bullet's Top Gun Stella (Stella). She was our pick from our litter from our Trego and Higgins. We liked both girls, but decided to keep the bad puppy! She is smart and fearless. We are looking forward to training a new pup. Stella is that pup that climbed out of the box first and has never looked back. She needed less sleep than her sibs. We really liked being able to choose the one we wanted, but felt like We got the other buyers the best dog for them as well. Matt |

Well, I just got a new pup. I got the opportunity to get a female pup out of a litter I had been drooling over and took it (VC Sharpshooters Man in Black x VC Sharpshooters Spy Girl). I have a 17 month old male out of Cash and am loving everything about him, and the Cash/Jinx litter is a rebreeding and the first litter is looking and doing great. She came home on Sunday and is doing great. The down side is I am going to sell my male pup that I kept from my Jan. litter. I am loving what I am seeing, great search/point/extreme water drive, just about does a duck search at 4 months, but the only female I have right now is his Mom, so I am very limited as to what I can do in the future with him (outside of hunt/test). I am still up in the air, and it will have to be a special home. I will post a for sale ad for him, and picks of the new girl, who we call June, when I can remember my photobucket log in info!.
BTW, my math sucks, but isn't 7x7=49? I always get my pups at 7 weeks, never had a problem. There is a lot of change between 6 and 7 weeks as far as pups learning dog manners and corrections from Mom, so if I had to pick between 6 and 8, it would for sure be 8, and pups I shipped were here for 8, but everyone local picked theres up at 7. Had they wanted them to stay another week, I would have had no problem. But, I want my new dogs to be socialized to my pack and my house rules.
OK, just went and looked I thought the article refred to was the original 49 day one, not this one by Bailey. I go with the original, JMO. By ten weeks I want the dog in my house, housebroke and learning from me and my dogs. |

so i picked up my fella today...he's 8.5 weeks (sorry, couldn't wait another week and a half) and has adjusted well so far....maggie (wife and i's first pup together and only 1.5 year herself) has taken a liking to him.....she's growled at him a few times while playing with her toys, but that's to be expected....he's sleeping right now and give me time to watch the race.....he actually fell asleep on the ottoman with his back legs hanging off....i've got pictures, but the cable is in my desk at work i sure look forward to sharing experiences with everyone and thank everyone in advance to and help which....brings me to my first question i caught him relieving himself in the house and took him straight outside.....do i need to wait for him to do it again outside before letting him in?....we were outisde for 10 minutes and he never pee'd so we came back in......he did poop and pee outside when we got home and i praised him, but what do i do in the other situation? thanks oh....and his name is going to be wyatt |

Adding to the new puppy thread.
We brought her home on Thursday at 7 weeks, she's not fond of the crate, she pees outside fine but saves the poop for my floor so today we started keeping her on a leash and close to us so we can catch her.
I think we're going to name her Lola (I love the song and it has lots of fond memories for me) but we're still debating. We were going to name her Maggie but the neighbor has a GSP named Maggie.

looks like she's just behind wyatt in age....i'll get some pitcutes posted tomorrow when i get to work...and i've never seen so many dogs that enjoy laying on their backs.....we got our fella fri....he's not favorable of the crate either....he woke us up the first night at 4am....ignored him and then got us up again at 6:30....since i get up around that time during the week, i got him out and took him outside....same thing this morning too......he's doing pretty well outside....i try to take him out every hour or after he wakes from a nap.....i'm trying to say something like ''hurry up" while he's doing his bis outside so he can associate a phrase with it and then he hurrys to me to get his kisses and praise...he's had a few mistakes, but that's to be expected i took him to a few stores yesterday and granddad's shop so he can get used to riding in the truck and being around other dogs and people....he'd rather follow me than have a leash for sure.....everyone was just goo-goo over him and he lapped it up.....i'm looking forward to getting into some real training in a month or two....i'm starting him slowly on the sit, shake, lay, and wait when i give him food....... btw, is 2.5/3 months a good time to start training him much more consistant?......what about the whoa/come comands?....i imagine i'll want to start those after he's got the basics down right?.....i'm still waiting on my 'green book' to come in so hopefully that'll help....has anyone else used this book? i'm still working on his name and would like some suggestions.....it's got to start with 'windchimes' and i'd like to stay with w's windchimes ________ wyatt woot the 'woot' comes from an expressinn of exclamation we use around the the wife's family....so what can the second name be?....i was thinking 'wondrous' but would like to hear what others come up with....thanks - cleancutredneck |

Here are some new shots of Indy boy at bout 11 weeks now! His potty training is getting better and better. I can leave his food and water out all day now while he's not kennels with minimal "like hardly ever" accidents and he goes as soon as I let him out and tell him to potty. He also knows "kennel up" and will go into his kennel upon command. He's learning sit and stay and I've now successfully walked him around the block on two occasions!
here ya go:

i think they all love the feeling of the cool grass on their belly....i don't have an empty bottle at the house right now, but i'm going to get a 1 or 2 ltr bottle, fill with water and freeze so that he can straddle and cool off with it.... we're still working on the 'bed time' command (we'll use that anytime we need to put him up), but i think as he gets more used to the kennel and doesn't whine as much, it'll be easier it's so cool seeing all of these pups growing together!!! |

Over time he'll adjust just fine to the kennel, when i frist brought indy home for the first 4 nights he whailed like a banchee in his kennel but now as soon as I tell him to "kennel up" he will run in there and not a peep until morning when he has to go. Even if I have to put him in there while I clean the house, have dinner, company etc. he will stay as quiet as can be. when he's out he'll occasionally run back into it and chill out or just take a nap " align="absMiddle" border="0" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/blue/emoticons/smile.gif" />. Make sure you make it as positive of an experience as possible while training him.
Wait till you walk him. I can't go around the block without being stoped 2-3 times by other dog walkers to admire him, they all love his eyes the most. As far as grass oh yea he'll slide around all over the grass and he'll find a soft moist patch of dirt, dig it up a bit and lie his head down on it, so damn cute.
I agree this is a great thread for all puppy owners lets keep it updated! |

I should know better than to look at puppy pics while at work. All of the pics are just adorable, although I have to admit I'm partial to Indy as an solid liver GSP. I have such a bad case of puppy envy right now! |
