ccrgsp, 6 weeks is way to young and we have discussed this on the forum in the past. Is there a way to keep the puppy with its littermates until 8 weeks of age? A breeder who gets rid of pups this young is acting irresponsible, IMO. There are all kinds of issues associated with puppies being taken home so soon. If the breeder will not keep the puppies together until 8 weeks, I for one, would consider another breeder. And I would like to know the reasoning behind this. I will try to re-post the 49 day article. Francine |

| i've heard this as well pixie and read here too....we've worked it out so that i'll bring him over each afternoon (they're just a few miles down the road) so that he can still mingle with his bros/sis until most are gone...this way, he isn't taken away without eveer seeing them agian.....she's also going to continue traing for the next 4 weeks when i take him over there.....it certainly was discussed and i insisted that this would work....get him use to being at his new place while still getting some training with his family.....i completely respect everyone's thoughts here so please tell me what you think |

So let me see if I understand this.. he is still with his litter-mates but comes to what is going to be his new home for "play dates?" or is he going to your house and going over there for play dates. I agree 6 weeks is WAY too early to be separated, but I can see how "borrowing" him for a little bit here and there to introduce him to his new house and any other animals you may have. If you have other pets, it is probably a good idea to take them over there to meet the puppy on his turf before you bring him to their turf. Carrie |

| i plan on picking him up around 6 weeks and bringing him home....he'll be inside with another that is 1.5 yr and has had no problems with other animals.....when i get home in the afternoons, we'll take a ride back to the kennel for 'play dates' so that it's not 100% seperation in 1 day.....when we go see him tomorrow, we'll take maggie with us and let em introduce themselves....'preciate the advice |

Why are you taking this approach? It sounds like it is all about you and not the puppy. Francine |

GSP pups are so cute. Big eyes, big feet, big hearts. Having rescue dogs, I missed out on most of the puppy experience. It would be great fun to have a pup just once. |

Bev, It's so hard to tell from pics which one to choose. Are you close enough that you'll be able to visit at least once before deciding? Having pick of the litter can be tough..... With my last litter, people seemed to generally be happier not to have to choose themselves but let me advise them as to which puppy would best be suited to their family and plans. Sex and color of the puppies play a factor as Terra tends to produce more solid than ticked puppies. We go for an Xray to see how many puppies on Monday. Can't wait for the big day!! Gail |

Gail -
We are hoping to get down there at least once before we have to go pick out our pup. I am also corresponding regularly with the breeder and she is keeping me up to date on the personalities and temperaments. I will rely allot on her advice as she was dead on with Halo. I had narrowed it down to Purple girl (Halo) and Green Girl and was going back and forth and she told me to take Purple that she thought she would be the nicest female (purple was the one she wanted her son to take and he took Pink instead). Well it turned out Halo was the best female in that litter.

I'm looking forward to seeing straight from the side shots in another week or so. For structure's sake, I also think Light blue Male is my pick at this point in time. But, can't see the rear angulation too well the way he is turned. Maybe we can have a puppy party in Houston ? (Its three weeks away, have you mailed your entries, Bev? hehehehe! Phyllis and tribe |

ccrgsp, the reason I say it is all about you is b/c from your response it sounds as tho the breeder will be holding a few pups a few weeks longer, so , why are you taking your puppy sooner? Is it b/c the breeder is insisting or was it your choice? And since you are aware that it may be an issue to the point of irreversible, negative consequences for your pup, why would you knowingly, willingly take a chance? There is no advantage to taking a puppy that young, unless the puppies survival depends upon it. I have taken a puppy that young and it was the last time. The dog seemed perfect in every way, hunted great, but he was a late starter in everything and from the day we had him until the day he died, if he wasn't hunting, all he did was whine and he could never be trained not to lift his leg in the house. He whined when he was petted, sitting on your lap, left alone, played with other dog, just always whined. The breeder, a well know breeder, said the only way to get the puppy was if we agreed to take it at 6 weeks old. We were totally in awe of the person we were getting the puppy from and thought that if this is his policy -IT MUST BE RIGHT. Guess what? Francine |
