| Tugger is starting to turn a little red so I think I might give Innova a try. |

| I tried Innova for a few months and even though their coats never looked better, my dogs hated it. It also gave them a both a nasty yeast infection in their ears. I'm not saying it won't work for you, just that I personally had issues with it. |

| When I got my pup at 3 months old he was being fed purina pro plan and I kept him on that for about 2 months then after reading the articles about food on this post I switched to canandae. With the canadae he had super huge stools when he had to go outside so I asked the dog food store owner about this and he said he had the same issues probably due to the grains so he got me to switch to ORIJEN which he has been on for about 2 months now and I think this is the best for him. It has no fillers or grain products since dogs generally are not grain eaters anyway. His stools are solid and not excessive now. His coat is awesome, very silky, soft and shiney. I also like that it was a 6 star rated dog food on one of the dog food analysis articles. IF you read the ingredients you will see that it is a very high quality food and now his diet is probably much more balanced than mine. |

| Thanks for the personal experiences. I should have mentioned that I'm currently feeding Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy. I'm not dead set on Innova. I am just looking for something that won't turn his liver spots reddish. |

I guess there is something wrong with our 4 GSp's as they love it when the corn or scratch grains get spilled when we are feeding the ducks & pigeons. They are like lil' Hoovers cleaning it up! Sometimes I swear they run into so I will spill it. BTW, as said before, corn is not a filler!!!

| Mine produce excessive amounts of drool when they see me cooking corn on the cob. They LOVE the cobs! |

Uno, please be very careful with corn cobs. They are pure cellulose, totally undigestible and can cause blockages and death. (or very expensive surgery to remove them). I've known more than one dog who met his maker this way. Phyllis and the Singltrak furtribe http://www.singltrakshorthairs.net/ |

one of my mom's shorthairs loves corn on the cob...he doesn't eat the cob itself, just nibbles left to right, then turns the cob & does it again until no corn left....like a cartoon character |

| I want to comment on some of what i've read earlier in this topic. While it is true that in the recent past Hill's offered vets perks for selling science diet, that is no longer the case. However it is also true that many dogs turn their noses up at science diet. Most reputable vets would not push science diet on a completely healthy dog, as almost any reputable dog food brand has the nutrients and protien necessary for growth and maintenance. However i do feel that some of their formulas and prescription diets are useful in certain situations. |

We were using Eukanuba but switched to Canidae for our lab. After being very please with Canidae they went and changed their formula, raised the price and made the bag smaller. Both our dogs reacted badly to the new formula. After lengthy discussions with dog people, lab people, GSP people and the food suppliers we are now using Wellness. It is rated as an A+ with 110 on the scale that Texasbelle provided. The boys really like it, it smells good to me even (no, I haven't tried it) and their coats and "output" are really showing improvement. |

| Okay now my father has owned GSP's and Brittany's forever and only feeds science diet. His dogs run all day, always look extremely healthy and have beautiful coats. This endurance stuff is crap most of the foods out there are solid adn training and proper exercise is the key to having a dog with endurance. I have had two shorthairs now for seven years and have fed nothing but science diet large breed. My male is seventy pounds and in perfect shape and my female is about 62 and without any fat. Charlie will run all day and then look at you as if you are crazy when it is time to head back to the truck. Vet's would not push products that are bad for dogs. My mom has tried everything with her cocker's as well Nutromax, Pro Plan, Eukanuba, Iams and BilJac. None of them had the results that the science diet had. Basically if you teach your dog from a young age to eat what is put in front of them they will not be picky. Mine eat nothing but dry food with a little warm water and have never really known anything but that. I have zero eating problems except for the normal problems when Dad leaves (emotional tantrums). the only thing I supplement food with is boiled russet potatoes when in the field. Do what you think is right for the dogs, but don't write off a food just because some people on here say so. Sorry if I bent any ego's( I do like everyone here). I just think some of you are a little warped on your thoughts here. |

Hi, I am new here and don't have a GSP just yet, but I would like to pass on this link to dog food ratings and reviews, it's a nice quick reference: http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/ I used to feed my American Bulldog Solid Gold, then switched to Canidae which was an excellent food but they have recently changed their formulas around so I don't know where it stands now... A food related question: with the GSP being prone to bloat, is it beneficial to wet down the food and feed from elevated bowls? I have also heard that certain preservatives in the food (citrates?) may be linked to bloat. |

| On bloat, all I know is what I've read but according to this website: www.globalspan.net/bloat.htm
don't raise the bowl, don't wet dry food down. Citric acid is a problem.
Don't let bloat happen, it sounds horrible! |

I am going to switch foods. I am willing to listen to everyone and try something other than Science Diet (even though mine love it and look very good). I am thinking of trying Authority Harvest Baked. Anyone have thoughts on it? Kyle |

| My dogs also reacted bad to the changes in Canidae change so after research and calling the companies we ended up with Innova and the dogs are doing really well on it. One thing that was important to me was that all manufacturing and ingredients were US made/grown. I only found 3 companies that were this way. |
