I was searching the web and found thi great site. I have an eighteen month old shorthair and we are having a great time training together. She is my first bird dog. Daisy earned her junior hunter title at seven months and a NAVHDA prize2 106 in N.A. at eight months. We have hunted woodcock, quail, pheasant, and chuckar in New Jersey,Penna.,Maine and New hampshire. She even tracked my friends bear in Canada after we lost the blood trail.I look forward to learning from this site.

Wow ... she is a beauty, and obviously has a good nose. Congratulations and welcome to the board!

Welcome!  Gorgeous dog.  How did you get her to track the bear?

I was working on the track for the NA test for awhile. I took her to where the bear was first hit and told her to track. I kept reepeating track just like we did for practice . She kept her nose down and sure enough led us right to the bear, Our guide was stunned and wanted me to leave her with him in Canada. She got a four in tracking the next week on the NA test. Now if I could only get her steady to shot!

Welcome to the site!!

I am glad you are here and you have a gorgeous dog!

Sorry about the comment about the bear....  it was a knee-jerk reaction.  Hope I didn't make you feel unwelcome.

Beautiful dog. You can't use dogs for tracking in MN, wish you could, it would help us find our deer a lot faster! Welcome to the forum

Welcome. Nice pup.

Tracking wounded game should be legal everywhere. I can do it in Maine, but I can't charge for the service unless I'm a Registered Guide. Dogs greatly reduce the loss of game and are essential for conservation. You should write it up for the VHD!

Where do you hunt in Maine?

Sorry I got to say this. This is a site for gsp's, used to be primarily about hunting dogs. And I know people have them as pets. But to ask that people lable pictures of dead animals, is, imo crazy. Used to be half the posts on here had dead animals of some type.
Anyway, welcome to the forum, nice pups, contrats on the na prize and the bear track, awesome! Keep the pics coming.

Welcome to the site. She is gorgeous. If she were a person I'd say she had supermodel legs, they are so long!

Well, I know... and I didn't want to make anyone angry....  I just wasn't expecting it.  Besides, isn't there a hunting section?

Navilla, and anyone else offended by pix of dead animals,

Sorry, but I'm with Trey on this one. GSPs are first and foremost a hunting/field trial/personal family dog. They were developed to be "Everyuse" kind of animals, as well as an all-purpose dog fit for furred or feathered game. (that's the name of a very old kennel, btw). That's the way it is. There are plenty of other things you can do with your pup besides hunting and that's great.

However, having to label a picture as "animal friendly" is a bit too close to censorship for me. Hunting section or not...its a GUNDOG FORUM, for heaven's sakes! Personally, I myself do not hunt, but any puppy leaving my house darn sure better.

In NM, tracking or trailing game with dogs (other than lion dogs on mountain lion or bobcat) is not legal...kind of like spotlighting.
