Has anyone had a positive experience ? Do your dogs wear them?
I bought them to take when we travel ( Oysterbeds, barnacles, )
I can't even get Bean to let me put one one...So we stay away from
Pad slicing areas ( to the best of our knowledge )

One answer....Duct Tape. Hero ran almost all his races to obtain his Dual Championship with his feet taped. One strip down the side, around and back up, another strip front to back and then wrap with a third strip, to hold the first two in place. Comes in many colors (Wally world) and can double as a bandage on a cut pad also. Next to impossible to remove, stays waterproof (to an extent), keeps stickers and owwie things away. (Having learned from TC, the master, on how to tape I can do it fairly quickly. Purple is the best color. Booties...pricey, get lost, etc.... Duct Tape? $4 for a big roll, and its replaceable. Dunno...not many oysters out here in the desert....LOL! Oh, Mountain Oysters, of course... It might be worth a try tho...three strips and then wrap? Off to handling class in 101 degrees...ugh! Phyllis |

We have to do boots off and on all winter for mushing. There are a couple tricks to putting them on. When you come over remind me to show you. |

Well, I am thinking this thread was probably prompted by my comment on the video thread about Osiris and his booties. (but maybe not...) Anyway, Osiris really does not like them. He did that prancy thing when we put them on him, and that was funny for about 10 minutes, then he kept laying down and trying to chew them off. I did get him to run in them down the driveway, but he still ran funny and one flew off. The ones we ahve look very well made and were kind of expensive, but he won't wear them. |

I have a website saved for the ductape dog booties. I have not made them yet, but this is a detailed instructions of how to assemble them. http://www.seniorpetproducts.com/pages/dog-shoe-tutorial.html |

Just a quick note: boots are NOT for just wandering out in the yard, unless there's an injury involved. The trick to not getting them chewed off and/or other drama elements is to put them on JUST before you're taking off on your activity. Then take them off as soon as you're done. Mushers typically put them on while the dog is harnessed and hooked up on the gangline. That way the dogs are so focused on RUNNING that they don't bother messing with the boots... although nobody waits long either at that point since a bored dog is more likely to cause trouble. |

My dogs hate them but once they are outside in the snow they don't seem to mind. Here's Michigan looking none too happy in her winter gear:

I bought a pair after Daisy ran a stick between her pad and it broke off in her paw. She never made a sound or stopped hunting. I was examining her after the hunt, like I always do ,and noticed the swelling. I bought them the next day after her surgery to remove the piece of stick that had broken off in her paw. She runs funny at first but ignores them as soon as she realizes there may be birds around. I put them on right before we go out in the field. |

Somebody threw glass at my back door the other day and Wachter stepped on a couple of pieces before I realized it. I had more problems wrapping his wound and keeping him in booties than I did in removing the glass shards. Carrie |
