Hot (approaching a 100 every day), dry (we haven't had rain in a long time), and windy (we are getting strong winds from the south).  This is July/August weather for Texas, so summer is here early this year, at least from a weather perspective. Send us some of the rain and mud we sure could use it right now.

Ya it's definitely approaching summer weather in Ottawa this weekend ... 32 degrees celsius with a humidex of over 40 (sorry, don't know the imperial equivalent) but suffice it to say HOT and MUGGY!

Surely pointing out Summer doesn't actually begin for a couple of weeks w/the Summer Solstice, easily qualifies as "friendly chit-chat" & is "not criticism" in any hostile sense. If such ordinary statements of fact result in "pissing off a lot of people" we'd better brace ourselves. If you want to see examples of unwelcome, unfriendly & very personal "criticsm" read unowhyandwho's OT version of "LIGHTEN-UP" & "ignore users'!

It was officially 97 here today, but the same Sun dictates the onset of Summer here, as it does throughout the N Hemisphere. Sorry "everyone" but its still Spring.

Hello Navilla,  Can you please send some of them storms and rain to NC? You can drain off the heavy parts of the rain and severe stuff, we just want the gentle rain clouds to park over us for a few days. Then they can take a few days off and let Mr Sun shine for a few days. Then we will need the gentle rain back for about 2 days a week. We will pay with much joy and cleaner cars, greener grass and more farm products-produce & hay. Plus it would be

I'm going to name my next dog Rainmaker.  I better get him soon.

It is "summer" here - highs in the 90's, supposedly close to 100 by the end of the weekend. I guess that means Sunday. Oh, Code Orange air quality too. Even in the mountains.

Being slightly more serious now - any thoughts on doggie activity and air quality?  I would expect that they would be the same as people - don't exercise in the late afternoon when the air is the worst. Otherwise   Now, how to tell that to the goDs so they understand?

For those in regions that get good rain, we had an Exceptional drought here last year. We had some relief in March & April. May was really dry again. June is looking to be dry again this year also.  It looks like where I am at in the NC mountains is still in Severe drought. My house in Charlotte is in Extreme drought. Actually, I think we started off with a bigger rain base last year. This year could be really bad.   For those desiring official info on this go to drought.gov

Terra's owner,

come on up to Ottawa! We've had a really nice mix of rain and sun, warm and cool weather this spring. My garden is going nuts! Plus we've had some GREAT thunder-boomers. (I seem to like every kind of weather :D

It's SUMMER here too! Why? Because I have started laying out by the pool and eatting ice cream sandwhiches on an hourly basis --99 degrees tomorrow. Lacey doesn't much like summer, its too hot for her. But today she got lucky, instead of catching chimpmunks outside, one came inside. It was air conditioned hunting for her through out the living room looking for that lil bugger.

Oh, & Navilla, you are sooo funny. That was a good try. Oh & it does not FEEL like summer today, raining, blowing, thunder storms, all night & into this afternoon. We are supposed to go to the lake cabin but it is so crappy out don't know if I want to.

Been raining and drizzling for three days here. Even though the damp, dreary weather is more suited to spring than summer... oh, I'm sorry, NEARLY summer... we desperately need the moisture. Too many brush fires lately, including a small one on the hill behind my house that I didn't even know about until I saw the aftermath yesterday in the form of blackened spots along an old stone wall.

It wasn't a large area, but since the last time I walked that way was the day before the rains came & there was no evidence of any fire there, I can only assume it started just before it got wet enough to extinguish it without human intervention. It was too dry and the area too full of dead wood, pine needles & other fuel to have stopped on its own. If it had gone any further, my house would definitely have been in danger. So, yet another reason to be grateful for the rain!

We had so much rain the other night that it weighted down and destroyed some large branches on our large elm. Probably not a big deal to those of you who live in largely wooded areas but our subdivision was built on farmland (probably a waste of scarce farmland) and every tree in our yard was bought and planted by us. Kind of like our kids too.

This has been a strange spring---hot one day and cold and rainy the next but we are always thankful for the rain. Loved the pictures of all the dandelions---so bright and yellow.

hugs pointer fan..

I think the only reason I haven't had downed branches this spring is because the winter ice storms knocked down so much of our trees as it was. I am like you living on reclaimed farmland (mind you it was reclaimed in the 1920's) but still, the loss of any shade can hurt in the summer

uknow...AWESOME...AWESOME...AWESOME !!!!!!!
And out here in the desert Southwest, where it isn't quite summer yet (officially of course) we expect to hit the century mark once again today. No rain since January, and my plants panic when they see a hose coming. Bad part about this is that its so dry (how dry is it????) that the NF nearby where we hold our summer (oooops, sorry ) this weekend is closed to all camping, obviously open fires, etc, thus also cancelling the trial.
And, its so hot....(how hot is it????) that our friendly local pro (aka TC) is having the beginnings of summer camp out on the trial grounds beginning at 5 am to beat the heat...

Sure looks like the spri-mmer season is upon us.

singltrak- It's really dry in Texas too.  Sorry to here still no rain where you are.  It was bad when we were in the NM mountains in April.  Can't imagine what it is like now.  They say we could get some showers this weekend.  I hope.  So, if weather is the indicator, it's the dog days of summer .

You'd better pack up the pointer sisters and get them to the Colorado mountains. They actually had more snow there last week----still skiing in some areas. Hope everyone gets the rain they need and no bad fires this year.

Yes,the weather tornado siron blew for TORNADO WARNING!!!   The siron is located for our part of town behind our house  is loud. Frist time since adopting Rocky we had to head down to the basement. !! Of course I have half of our basement cleared and set up for basement bad weather ball toss so Rocky thought, " Great my parents are lining up for  a basement ball toss session" So the whole time we were down there Rocky was calmly retrieving his ball."  ..... Oriris , You have a Spectacular Gift!! Warning your humans before a great thunder storm is coming. Not all dog have that gift and you do!! AWESOME    I have always wondered if Dogs who could forecast weather way before it happens could save lives especially in these 3rd world countries where the typones with hurricanes hit their small islands.  My Snicker girl, Chese/lab had "the bad  weather was coming warning gift." I used to call her "My weather dog". I could tell by her behavior 3 hours before a major STORM FRONT was coming thur our area. Because of Snickers bad weather change of behavior warning I knew not to hang out wash on the clothes line!! Also if a storm was forecasted to come in latter Snickers always gave me 45 minute warning to get that wash off the line. Rocky doesnot have that gift and I do miss Snickers and her special gift. It truly warms my heart, Navella, that Oriris has that special weather forecasting ability!!!!
