A lot of us have had a really loooong winter & spring, thought I would start a new topic & lets see all the summer pics.
I think we are farming Dandelions! , Ruger was chasing bunnies while I mowed on Sun. & got worn out & laid where I was mowing. This was back by our riding arena I mowed for 4 hours on a rider & still did not get done

even got out their pool

Alice
I'll need to get a new pic of the Bean..... SUMMER WISE
We have dandelions & clover, rather than manicured lawn.....The scotch bloom here is so crazy ( outside the lawn )
I'll send a picture.....SO far Greg seems to mow an hour a day, just keeping up with it..4 hours on a riding lawn mower, really sounds boring
I hope you have some good tunes to listen, as you mow ! I'm just glad you're out of the COLD SPELL....

Oh, I love the pool pics! Osiris has a pool, but he won't get in it - he just drinks out of it and chews on the side. He loves the lake and the creek, though. |

It's summer, at last? Are you REALLY sure? I just spent 3+ hours in the wind and freezing rain. Okay, it was 55--but after an hour, I was a human popsicle. (Who's idea was it to sign the boys up for baseball, again?) The pictures are nice, Alice--but I think you photoshopped the date in. They were from last August, I just know it... |

Ruger [laying down] & Gunner, Tucker won't go near the pool, He doesn't like the water & when we are at the lake cabin he might put his feet in but that's all. At 13 he mostly suns himself!!
It was in the 70's on Sat. cloudy & cool again today , hopefully it gets nice again soon. Ron & I have things going on the next 2 weekends in different directions the 2nd weekend & then we should have our new boat motor & will be fishing again. Get to go to the lake cabin this weekend & the grand kids are going to be there YEAH
here is the other pic I took that day

You're kidding about the summer part, right? I'm wearing fleece to work tonight. It's freezing.
Great pictures! My dogs are still trying to sleep UNDER the covers. |

| finished mowing last night, 2 more hours, UCK, I told Ron "that is it, we are moving the pasture fence over" He didn't want the horses that close to the house but with gas prices & everything we are just going to have to do it, the horses will be happy!! I think I will see how to make dandelion wine, LOL |

It was great to see all those Dandelions around the GSPs. The serious decline in Honeybees has been, in some part, attributed to the national obsession w/eradicating Dandelions. Apparently their early blossoms provide Honeybees w/nurishment during a critical season, both the loss of the blossoms & commercial herbicides used on them account for significant Honeybee fatalities. Plum trees behind my house were notably free of Honeybees when they bloomed & there are only a few dozen fruits. Normally the trees are covered w/bees & plums. My folks also noted an absence of bees on their Maples & there are no whirllyjigs. Were your acres of Dandelions buzzing w/bee activity? Now before anybody goes off on another round of condemning me, imagining some "condescending" & "hypercritical" sinister purpose, consider just for a second that I'm only mentioning this & not attempting to label anyone a "bad" person. Mostly I'm curious if far flung members are aware of the serious declines in Honeybee numbers? In this same area, have members also heard about or noticed the decline in Lightning bugs? Apparently Lightning bugs are completely gone in many areas where they'd always thrived. Here in the forest, next to nearly 30,000 arces of wildlife refuge, these captivating little bugs survive in numbers a mere fraction of previous decades. |

I think it's still to cold for bee's. Last year we had so many lightning bugs that Ruger though it was a car coming down our road & wouldn't stop barking, LOL I love lightning bugs. Growing up in San Diego I never saw them until I moved here. They probably have them in CA, just never saw them. Last year we had a lot of bee's, but I know they say the population is down. |

| I've seen a few lightning bugs at the cabin over the years. I'll have to make a point of seeing Jackson's reaction to them. |

That's interesting. I was visiting my mom in the Twin Cities and she made a comment that she hasn't seen as many birds this spring as she normally does. She also said she had read an article that the reason there were'nt as many birds was because the bug population is down. Don't fool with mother nature! I love the picture of the gsps in the dandelions. They are GSPs out standing in their field |

| I saw a bee buzzing around my feet this morning on my front porch. And I thought to myself,"No I will not kill or try to rid of any bees who nest under my front porch, because there is a dramatic national shortage of Bees" ( for reasons mentioned by Spots). There are bumble bees and other bees that we see in the dandelion fields along with butterflys!!! Right now there are alot of ground nesting birds so I am not letting Rocky off leash in the fields!!! |

We have plenty of birds in our neighbourhood (and we are in a new developing suburb). Perhaps because the backyard neighbours keep their bird feeders full. Perhaps because I tend to plant gardens to attract, birds, bees and butterflies. Perhaps because the construction workers leave good garbage? We won't even get into the Canada geese that seem to be EVERYWHERE ... |
